Hey, JS113! I've noticed that you've been creating pages for the French supplements. Thanks for your tireless work! I wanted to give you a head's up that I've started compiling a list of French-language scenarios. You can find the work-in-progress here. I'm mentioning it just in case this was something you had planned to do. (If so, feel free to contribute to the list in my user space; I will move it to main space once I have it completed.)
For now, I'm leaving duplicates on the list (like if "La maison hantée" appears in more than one supplement), but I'll likely remove those once the full list is completed. My hope is that this list will make it easier for us to identify scenarios unique to the French-language version of the game and create pages for them. The translated scenarios should probably just point to the English page, where we can point readers to the French sources where the translated scenario can be found. Just a heads up -- I'm leaving the French scenario names in the French scenario list for now rather than hiding the link to the English title. My reasoning is that leaving them be for now will create an army of red links that we can then just click on one by one to create redirects from the French title to the English title of the scenario.
For example, instead of typing [[The Madman|Le fou]], we can leave it as [[Le fou]] for now. That creates a red link: Le fou. But then that's an easy click to get to the page to create a redirect page. If we do the work of hiding the English title in the wiki markup now, we double our work later when trying to make these redirect pages. SavageBob (talk) 17:57, 8 June 2020 (UTC)
- Regarding the redirects, the idea is to basically idiot-proof ourselves for the future. Like, if an editor makes a page for a French supplement down the road, they may decide to wiki-link all the French scenarios therein, not knowing that many of them are translations of English originals. In that case, there's a risk that they might even make a page for the French translation of the scenario before someone realizes it. That's a lot of wasted effort for everyone. Better to cut them off at the pass by creating a redirect from the French scenario name to the English scenario name. Redirects are cheap and don't cost us anything. Better to have tons of them (at least that's been the philosophy of every other wiki I've worked on).
