Ratings

MPAA Ratings

  • Rated: R (Violence, Nudity, Adult Content, Sexual Situation, Profanity)

Tentacle Ratings

A rough measure of how "Lovecraftian" the work is:

  • S____ (One Tentacle: Debateably Lovecraftian; has almost no direct connection to Lovecraft's work)

Not particularly "Lovecraftian", though there are some similarities to what I've been categorizing as "Eldritch Location" films; this film may have been an influence upon those later films. The characters exploring hallucinatory after-death experiences and "summoning" nightmarish hallucinations can be roughly compared to the Lovecraftian cliche' of characters studying forbidden tomes and summoning tentacle-monsters, though the presence of a "moral of the story" is antithetical to Lovecraft's world view. A loose comparison might also be drawn to "From Beyond (fiction)".

Note: This rating is not intended as a measure of quality, merely of how closely related to Lovecraftian "Weird" fiction the work is.
