So Lovecraft appears in the Netflix show Russian Doll..sort of. I binged the show last night and really enjoyed it. Although the show itself isn't Lovecraftian, I did notice one piece of Lovecraft that appeared. In the last episode of the season there is a sidewalk scene where the camera pans out some and pauses. And lo and behold, the character in the shot has stopped in front of the Lovecraft Restaurant and Pub in New York City. This happens about the 14:20 mark. Link to the restaurant is HERE. Although that is the only Lovecraft reference, I do recommend the show immensely. A fun black comedy with some very imaginative twists and turns.

It has been announced that Matthew Ruff's Lovecraft Country is coming to television.

Hi guys it’s been a while since I last posted. I know that the Japanese love inserting the Cthulhu Mythos in their media is the following happen was not much of a shock but a plea sent surprise. In the last 2 episodes of Overlord in Japan the Lord Ains summoned a pack of Dark Young by invoking Shub Niggurath. It was fun to see how their alien beasts were able to decimate an opposing army. Oddly he kept calling them baby goats and I wonder if that’s a common nickname or a mistranslation. Just though I’d share.

First, if you have any love for time travel and good storytelling, you should watch Spain's Ministry of Time. That's not what I really want to talk about, tho. In the last episode of Ministry the writers heavily reference the works of Narciso Serrador, specifically his TV series Stories to Stay Awake which, judging by what I've seen so far, is a kind of hybrid Twilight Zone and Tales of Mystery and Imagination. I'm intrigued. I'd like to know more. I see there's an incomplete DVD version - like the BBC, TVE had a habit of losing things - presumably produced in Spain. Speaking as a hopeless monoglot, does anyone know if the DVD version has English language subtitles?

So the 1963 J-Horror film Matango: Attack of the Mushroom People, based on W.H.Hodgson's 'Voice in the Night' has come up in a few discussions here. So one thing that is apparent upon watching this flick is that the composition of the castaways in this film mirrors a more familiar group of castaways that appeared on American TV the next year. A skipper of course. An unreliable first mate (who favors a red tee shirt). A millionaire. A professor. A sultry vamp in show-biz. An innocent girl next door type. So what kind of Mythos troubles could our American castaways find themselves in? "Deep, Deep Trouble." The castaways discover a flooded Deep One temple in a sea-cave. Gilligan is increasingly troubled by recollections of his ill-favored relations from a decaying New England fishing village. "Can't Get There From Here." An uncharted, deserted island a day's sailing from Oahu? Not very likely. The storm that ship-wrecked them was supernatural, a rift between dimensions. They're actually on an island of the Dreamland's Middle Ocean. They've preserved a bubble of 'reality', that is going to collapse in time. Strange and alien constellations will appear in the night-time sky. The broadcasts they receive on their radio will become increasingly bizarre and cryptic, before ceasing altogether. And then one day a galley from Dylath-Leen appears in the tiny cove.

I just found a reference to this online. Has anyone watched it? Murdoch Mysteries: Master Lovecraft (S10 E16) Image Source: http://murdochmysteries.wikia.com/wiki/Master_Lovecraft With Tyler East as HPL.

I was watching the British TV detective series Endeavour last night . There were two Lovecraftian references: Two of the characters were "an American couple from Kingsport, Massachusetts". I checked the credits at the end and the husband was called Nahum Gardiner, very similar to the farmer from The Colour out of Space. I hope the couple brought along their annotated copy of the Ponape Scripture. (Why weren't the police suspicious that they claimed to come from a town that doesn't exist?)

(Indiegogo) The Music of Erich Zann - Short Film Adaptation
TheMusicofErichZann2018 posted a topic in Arkham Market Square
Hello! My name is Jamie and I am currently the producer and director of an upcoming short film adaptation of The Music of Erich Zann. One common theme in most of Lovecraft's stories was his ability to build an atmosphere and we believe that "The Music of Erich Zann", does this better than most. The way in-which he describes the Rus d'Auseil is vague and mysterious and we believe this makes it so interesting to adapt to film. We want to make the hotel seem alive in this story and and give the impression that it is the building that is partly manipulating the protagonist. Our plan is to build our own set so that we can not only construct our vision for what the hotel may have looked like, but also it allows us to be able to experiment with all different factors (camera, lights, etc.), to make the hotel seem as creepy as possible. We recently launched an Indiegogo campaign to help us raise the funds that we will need to make the film how we want to. We also want to get the Lovecraft community involved in this and will happily welcome any feedback on the project from now, right until the final cut of the film. Our final aim for the project is to have it entered in various short film festivals around the world, such as: NecronomiCon, the HP Lovecraft Film Festival and CthulhuCon , and so much more. You will be able to find much more information on the film, rewards, and the crew through the main campaign page: Link: https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/t...r/x/17934293#/ Thank you for taking the time to read this, Jamie.- 2 replies

Well, until I win the lottery and give Guillermo DelToro all the money he needs to make "Beyond The Mountains of Madness" we have this, from Ridley Scott: "The Terror", based on the novel by Dan Simmons. Looks good to me! - Bill

A lot of Adventure Time fits very well with the Mythos.

Did anyone happen to see the season finale of Halloween Wars on Food Network this past Sunday? They didn't call him by name, and he had a tail instead of wings, but one of the teams effectively created a massive sculpture of Cthulhu from cake, pumpkin, and sugar. http://food.fnr.sndimg.com/content/dam/images/food/fullset/2017/10/1/0/HW0705_Round-2.jpg.rend.hgtvcom.966.725.suffix/1508256821306.jpeg

Just a quick heads up to anyone interested, now's your chance (maybe) to watch "The Collect Call of Cathulhu," the Cthulhu Mythos-themed episode of The Real Ghostbusters. It's currenly available, along with the rest of the series, on Netflix streaming in the US. (I can't speak to its availability in other countries - non-US readers, speak up!) Season 1, Episode 41, about 20 minutes. Suitable for most audiences - it was a cartoon aimed at kids, after all. The detail-oriented part of me is amused that the episode title card spells it "Cathulhu", but Netflix spells it "Cthulhu."

Here are two videos I found on YouTube that could be used as the basis for Delta Green scenarios. The first one is a five minute short film in which someone discovers that the performance enhancing drugs he is taking have had 'interesting' side effects. The film raises a lot of questions that it does not answer... The second is a 2013 trailer for a film that appears to have disappeared into 'development hell'. From the trailer the plot-line appears to involve the complete or partial upload of someones personality into a robot and it appears that the government is after the robot.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d9XOXlOSNk4 My Short Film "H.P. Lovecrafts Hypnos" won the Best Adaptation Prize at the H.P. Lovecraft Film Festival in Portland. Pretty soon after the win we uploaded the whole thing online for free. In all the hassle I somehow forgot to post it in here. Anyhoo! The mistake has thusly been rectified. Any feedback is appreciated. I might be working in some other Lovecraft inspired work in the future also and will surely be posting it here if anyone's interested. You can also read a bit more on the film here: https://azathotfilm.com/hypnos

No, not that Brain Dead, this BrainDead - no space, sorry Beaumont fans. While the presentation is more often that of a political comedy than horror, the subject matter can easily be stolen for a Delta Green or Modern game. In fact, I'm doing that right now! Think Alien Raiders, but with more comedy. From Wikipedia: Documentary filmmaker Laurel Healy agrees to take a job working for her brother, Democratic Senator Luke Healy, in order to secure funding for her next film. However, she comes across a conspiracy in which alien bugs have partially replaced the brains of several people, including members of Congress. Sometimes, the bugs cause their victims' heads to explode. The song "You Might Think" by The Cars is used frequently in the series as a leitmotif for characters who are infected by the aliens. As bonus nerd cred, each episode features a 'previously on' recap song by Jon Coulton. Here's the one from episode 2, minor spoilers for Episode 1.

Just spotted this episode summary for the time travel series 'Seven Days' on Wikipedia: Series Three, Episode Four: The Dunwych Madness Someone must have been running out of ideas... Might be worth watching just to see if they indulged in any Lovecraftian name dropping...

Just binge-watched Stranger Things on Netflix. Excellent show and very good homage to 1980s movies (and also very Lovecraftian)! https://www.netflix.com/title/80057281

Hey all, There's a new supernatural mystery show that's started in Australia: "The Kettering Incident". Given that it's an Australian production it's probably flown under the radar a bit. Good cast, the lead was great in "The Night Manager" and seems to be playing a similar role here. There's a teaser below. If you can't watch it:

Some really awesome animated speculation on Martian life from 1957. Has a very Mythos feel

I am developing a Delta Green scenario based on the old one season wonder TV series Threshold. Look here if you are not familiar with it: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Threshold_(TV_series) In the series an alien probe transmits a signal that alters human DNA with the goal (maybe) of Xenoforming humanity and Earth. The probe encounters a naval vessel and some of its crew get transformed. Those so transformed are near superhuman, sociopathic, and obsessed with transmitting the signal. This has all happened before, but human tech was not sufficient to record and transmit the signal. My dilemma: Technological advancement since the show aired in 2005 makes it seem to me it would be very easy to transmit the signal. One satellite smart phone and it goes straight on YouTube. One way of dealing with this would be to say that the signal is not transmitted at sufficient quality that way, but that it does have at least some effects. The problem would be that the signal, and thus some strange phenomenon, would be widely known. The only viable copy would be from the ship's electronic sensor suite and that is more manageable. So, how do I deal with the signal? I do not want to create a zombie apocalypse before the players even start the game, nor even set off a wave a bad dreams. I do want there to be at least two versions of the signal in circulation: a weak one and a strong one. I do want the signal in even its degraded state to have some effect, because I want it to be able to effect the players in a way that lets them still play their character. I do not want the degraded signal or the footage of the alien probe on every screen in the world in 24 hours. Thoughts? Also, I have a plan for something that is not in the show: secret societies that are aware the probe appeared before and have been planning for its return. One group raises children and damages their language centers - producing a small force of mute and deaf warriors who communicate with their own special sign language and iconography that their handlers hope will make them immune to the signal. The other group are the genetic descendants of one of the infected who, when he realized he could not repeat the signal, tried to spread his bloodline far and wide. These people are slightly stronger, faster, and smarter than ordinary humans, know each other on sight, and are obsessed with fulfilling what has become a near religious purpose.

Fantastic TV show that should provide inspiration for any Cthulhu enthusiast. I'm seriously considering changing the name of our RPG group to "The Club of the Damned" in homage to it From the wiki page: "Series deviser Robert Muller, who also wrote seven of the eight screenplays, said: "The idea was to tell the kind of Gothic tale that we don't have on television, something akin to the old horror films of the 1920s and 1930s. What we get now are thrillers set in modern times with lots of blood and violence. There is no blood and no violence in this series. They are tales about ghosts, vampires, werewolves, that sort of thing. Highly romantic and highly charged with fear and menace." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J3UrhSdEQW8

I was watching True Detective S1E7 "After You've Gone". The final scene has detectives Gilbough and Papania meet a groundskeeper mowing at a graveyard. They ask him for directions. He is very chatty but they drive off while he is in mid-sentence. As the camera moves back the viewer sees that the groundskeeper is not what he seems. It reminded me a lot of CoC where the poor Keeper is trying his or her best to give the Investigators clues but they persist on ignoring them.
