Yog-Sothoth Yithmass gift exchange

Recommended Posts

Here's how it's going down.

1. Send me a PM before Nov. 20. Any PMs sent after this might or might not get in.

In the PM, tell me:

Name

Address

Where you're willing to ship. Judging from the replies so far most people are willing to send overseas, but really, you don't have to, if it's cheaper and easier for you to mail something without any ocean involvement then go for it.

2. On Nov. 21-22 I'll randomly distribute the names (I plan to use dice for this) No later than Nov. 25 you'll get a PM saying who you're sending to.

3. $20US (the price of a monograph) is around what the gift should cost.

4. The $20 is before shipping, so keep that in mind if you plan on shipping a 43lb wagon wheel.

5. The gifts should arrive by Dec. 15.

6. If for some reason you can't get the gift out, lemme know. Quickly.

6b. You must have joined before this post (Oct. 31).

I feel bad about this part, it's a little insulting really but there are rules and I’d rather have them put down then assume.

7. Keep the gifts clean, no midget porn, no sending lock picks to Canada and it's illegal to send alcohol to some places.

8. Send the gift. If you can’t, something horrible happens or whatever, let me know. If it’s before the deadline then I can fix it easily, if it’s after, I can still figure something out, if you tell me. I don’t have real power to come after you if you leave someone hanging but I don’t think anyone here would do that.

I'll update the list of people in every couple of days.

[kept for posterity]So over on rpg.net they are doing a "Secret Satan" gift exchage again this year and I was wondering if there was any interest here on Yog.

Basically everyone would put their name into a digital hat, the names would be sent back randomly with addresses and everyone would send a present to the person they got.

Any thoughts?[/posterity]

That does sound like a fun idea! :)

Would we be setting a price limit like they always do at my work? (and everywhere that I've ever worked)

A few things

1) Someone has to volunteer to coordinate this (NOTME).

2) That volunteer generally randomly assigns who gets who. The volunteer usually finds out who selected him/her.

3) Other forums I've seen restrict it to users who joined 1 week before the Secret Santa was announced.

4) A purchase range has to be set.

5) People have to be able to handle shipping overseas.

6) Have to set a "send by" date.

7) Have to agree that if you send someone a PS3 and you receive a used trade paperback, that you won't get all hoity toity under the collar.

I am currently in one (or two) and the more professional one ends registration tomorrow. The other one ends registration on November 15th.

Sound like good recommendations Squashua. If this were to run it would need to be posted on the frontpage - I'll drop PoC a mail and see it he thinks it's a goer.

It might be a good idea to have two (or more pools) so that people are not sending their gifts to different continents (to keep costs down).... of course YMMV and I'm a skinflint :)

Sounds like fun.

Are unopened (i.e., still shrink-wrapped) copies of The Bermuda Triangle and/or Utati Asfet acceptable as gifts?

I was just contemplating reading my copy of the Bermuda Triangle last night. I decided not to.

"I like this plan! I'm excited to be a part of it" -Dr. Vankman (sp?)

I'd be glad to participate in such a project. I already have an idea of what I'd send someone, too. So just let me know where to sign up!

hmm... guess I should pick up a copy of Bermuda Triangle. :P I have a great idea for a gift. It involves a little craftmanship on my part. :D

If I get someone I don't like, I'm sending my copy of Walker in the Waste, and so method for me to make them read it all... :)

Okay, okay. I promise--no Bermuda Triangle or Utati Asfet for the lucky recipient of my gift!

It sounds like enough people would be interested. So I'll offer to organize it.

If you want to do this, send me a PM with:

Name, Address and where you're willing to ship gifts (U.S. Greater East Asia Co-Prosperity Sphere, UK etc.)

Let's call Nov. 20 the cutoff date.

Sometime between Nov. 20 and Nov. 25 I'll randomly give everyoone a person to send their gift to. After this you send a gift to that person.

I think $20 (the price of a monograph) give or take or so seems like a good "value" for the gifts, if you're in it, you can post suggestions here if you want, no guarantees though.

So if you're in lemme know. Also, if you're in but something happens and you're out, lemme know.

Is the $20 inclusive or exclusive of shipping?

From what I've seen at other places, $20 should be EXCLUSIVE of shipping; shipping is it's own beast.

Also, you need to set a "received by" date. As in, items should be "Received by December 15th" or something.

PM tentatively created.

The good news, is, though, that The Bermuda Triangle is less than $20!

I could send 2 at that price!!!

The Dec. 15 recieved by date seems pretty good, let's add that.

The $20 sholud be before shipping.

And let's also assume that everyone who wants The Bermuda Triangle (me) already has one.
