Ghost for hire in 1799 Scotland

A gem from the academic book I’m currently reviewing about ghosts in 18th century Scotland. An out of work actor writes to Lady Douglas of Bothwell Castle in 1799. As she was “muche in wante of a Goste to hante your ruinated Castle” he would be perfect, having played the ghost in Hamlet on the London stage. Wants £15 yearly and would supply his own “windin sheets, chock Lantern, spirit of wine, bludde and all the necessary apareal for a complite goste”. And he’s suitable because “I am in Persin fite for a Goste avin a megir persin, a ollow voice and can grone well when required. P.S. I cane cro like a cok if requirde."
