When Cthulhu wakes, how exactly will he destroy the world?

This just came to my mind (no doubt influenced by the Great Dreamer): When Cthulhu finally wakes, R’lyeh rises, and he leaves his tomb to wreak havoc unto the world... How exactly is that going to play out? A lot of people will become mad, sure, but what causes the end of human civilization? Is Cthulhu himself going to eat every single human, is he going to destroy all the cities on earth? That scenario makes me think of the way Santa Claus is supposed to go at insane speeds with his sled to he can visit every (christian?) home on earth to deliver presents. Are the hidden cult members helping him, do they survive to reign over the world with him or are they so insane that they will actively help him and yet perish with all the other humans? Will mankind become insane and start an apocalyptic war so Cthulhu just has to pick up the pieces?

One of Lovecraft's main premises was that these are immeasurably ancient, extremely powerful, and utterly alien creatures. If they were explicable, they wouldn't be quite as horrifying. We humans explain and understand  things by means of comparison. When things are incomparable, either because they are unique (which is why all analogies of the Holy Trinity fall short) or because they are so alien that they lie far outside the scope of our finite brains to comprehend (which was Lovecraft's assertion regarding the Great Old Ones), our response is awe and horror. This is as it should be.

The funny thing is that people may be too insignificant to Him. Like ants. When you wake up in the morning - do you care for ants in the yard? Do you try to destroy the anthill, burn the ant workers etc? You simply go where you want to, maybe stepping ocasionally on 1-2 ants and that's all.

What if it is the same with GOOs? =)

He will let himself be seen, that's how!

The ant comparison is pretty sound. Except yeah he would at least eat his followers first who I kind of imagine wrapping themselves up together as a nice sort of dinner tray due to their madness?....Everything past that is the futile efforts of the masses to defend themselves against something they can not understand and failing. The methods and ends of this are varied, I mean the weapons we have will have no effect, would Cthulhu himself even notice our attempts? Would he then proceed to eradicate or toy with those who tried? Would he simply begin the building of a new empire right on top of us? Who is to know for sure. Just possibilities we will never comprehend.

Players rationalize...as do Keepers. Madness is formless.
