Small Pilgrim Places - Nice Places To Walk or Location Ideas

Recommended Posts

MadHalfling

I saw this thread on Twitter of a little church in the middle of nowhere, there are some nice, atmospheric pictures in the the thread, too.  I've not been there, or really looked at the SPP site, but I thought there are probably some walkers on here that might like it, and (esp if there are pics, etc) locations on there could provide some interesting, out-of-the-way locations for RPG encounters.  Here's the thread of that little church in the middle of nowhere on the North Downs with all the pics:-

This looks like the place

And this is the site that details it and loads of other little places like it

MadHalfling this is a fantastic setting resource thank you. Especially for a more MR Jamesian campaign concept. I am rereading my complete MRJ just now on my commute and revisiting a CoC campaign concept that I began but never completed the last time! Your link is evocotive and inspiring. Thank you!

The Chaldon Church in Surrey has much to recommend too.

Or the Fairfield Church in Romney Marsh.

Or something James would have visited, Dunwich's All Saints Church.

The Church of St. Mary and St. David in Kilpeck is one of the few Norman churches in England with its exterior decoration intact. It includes a Tree of Life and a Sheela na Gig which can both be worked into a Shub-Nigurath theme due to the fertility allusions.

Some fantastic settings here for sure! Obviously useful for any CoC game but especially useful for campaigns based on MRJ's horror style, where churches seem to often conceal ominous, ancient, secrets.

Excellent, really glad that it was of some potential use - it's also nice to know that my RPG senses are still on form after many years of disuse.

Is that the Dunwich in Suffolk?  If so, I went there a few years ago and it was a really nice walk - we camped at Southwold and had a walk down the beach to Dunwich then back through some woods - it a very nice place.  Also, the pub we went in had 4 Adnams pumps on........mmmmmmmmmm, Adnams.......
