Seeds of Doom plot generator

Recommended Posts

The Seeds of Doom on-line plot generator is up and running. Seeds of Doom will quickly generate a plot outline (a main location, plot, sub-plot/complication, an artefact, main antagonist and their motivation/goal) all at the click of a button.

The plots generated aren't always going to make complete sense but will hopefully inspire the Keeper/Games Master's creative thoughts.

If you'd like to help with adding items to any of the six plot-points then please post below with your ideas, using the headings:

Main Location

Main Plot

Sub-Plot/Complication

Artefact

Main Antagonist

Antagonist's Motivation/Goal

I'll update the database and you'll receive a credit on the site.

Please keep suggestions under 200 characters each.

That's a great idea!  :)

I don't suppose there are lists of the current entries under those headings anywhere, are there?  It would help make it easier to avoid duplication of suggestions, I think.

Thank's, another nice addition to your site. The name of it amuses me as  Seeds of Doom is one of the great, classic era Doctor Who stories. Not only that, it's ripe for converting into a Call of Cthulhu scenario with minimal adjustment. In the spirit of your new toy:

Main Location

Athelhampton House, Dorset, UK

Main Plot
Alien seed pod turns man into plant that feeds on animal flesh.

Sub-Plot (Complication)
A PC’s assistant keeps getting captured and needing rescuing.

Artefact
20,000 year old seed pods discovered in Antarctica.

Main Antagonist
Harrison Chase, insane millionaire plant collector.

Antagonists Motivation/Goal
‘It’s the plants’ world, and humans are parasites.’

One minor critique: the grey text on green bg – too light and not clearly readable.  Why not just make it black?

Sorry, I missed this post - there's not currently a complied list, I'll see what can be done.

You're right the name was inspired by the Dr. Who story of the same name, I thought it'd be a catchy and evocative title for a random plot generator.

Aghhh! Adding the actual plot elements from the Dr Who story is something that I should have already thought of... doh! This shall be added to the database 'toot sweet'.

I'll have another look at the styling to make the contrast better.

Well, I am happy to help with that, if you would like. I've often thought there's lots of useful source material in Doctor Who, so last night, after my previous post, I went through a list of all the stories (of which, ahem, I'm familiar with 99%) and noted those which are most usable for Call of Cthulhu. That'd be a good starting point, not that other stories won't provide useful data for your generator, just those are most aligned to the cause. Happy to share if you, or anyone, is interested. Perhaps there's a thread for that sort of thing already, a bit beyond the Lovecraftian TV shows one, maybe.

Sounds fantastic, Cloud64!  I tried much of the same, but while working on only vague memories of serials I've not seen since the 1980s (I'd seen all the films and most of the shows aside from some of the spin-off series and a lot of the 2nd and 3rd doctors' stories), and without any information on the books, audio plays, and other "expanded universe" type content.  I put what I could here: (link), feel free to add anything big that I might have missed!

Carnage_lee, once things slow down enough for me I'll try a few lists of plot-point items - it sounds like it'll be fun!

OK, looks like getting access to the wiki is something that needs organising.

No worries. Thanks for that. I'll try to have a look at it the weekend. Prepping for a Thursday night session at the moment.

Sorry for the thread hijack, Carnage.  Hopefully this will help:

Those are excellent additions to the database, thank-you very much!

That puts the possible combinations at just north of one and a half billion!

One and a half-billion? Right on!  Glad I could help :8E:

I'll see if I can think of a few more next week; it seems like the Antagonists and Motivations have plenty of unexplored opportunities for aliens/monsters and other non-human conflicts that I haven't quite put my finger on yet, and it's something I'd like to do a little more with.
