Shadows Over Scotland - Update

Recommended Posts

Quick Update:

Shadows Over Scotland has gone into layout. Not long now!

Hello StuartB, any updates you can give us? It's been a wee bit quiet for the last month or so... I'm having issues with the Cubicle-7 website at moment as well, it doesn't show at all actually, so I canät check there for the latest progress.

Curiosity only grows when it cannot be satisfied... Thanks in advance. TTFN, Paddurz.

Hi Stuart, (and all the rest!) I just wanted to chime in and say how much I enjoyed my part in this. My involvement wasn't large, by any means, but I still was honoured to have been included with such an awesome set of talent. Can't wait for this one to come out :)

Hello, Paddurz and Eric,

Apologies for the quietness but that is largely due to teaching and a few research deadlines at work. Normally I would be giving updates more regularly.

The layout for Shadows Over Scotland is nearing completion and I am hoping to see the full 288-page proof for a final check before it goes off to the printer.

There has been some delay because of competing priorities. Namely, work on The One Ring project--surely to be a hit for Cubicle 7--has complicated things. Being a huge Lord of the Rings fan and understanding financial necessities, I find it hard to fault this logic. Having said that, things are on track, even though the track is a bit longer--and I should be seeing the layout proof shortly. I will absolutely 100% promise here and now to post when I've got the proof in my hands, as it were. The PDF and then the glorious hardcover itself should follow apace. I will post updates as soon as I can.

Eric, let me take the opportunity to thank you--and I'll extend that to all the artists--for the amazing work that you all have done. I've seen roughly half that artwork and it blew me away. Some truly amazing work here and, as you say, by such a great group of artists! I can't wait to see it incorporated into the layout (which is fantastic and has a great 1920s feel) in the final product.

So there, folks, a wee update and more to follow. :D

p.s. I've created an Author page on Facebook to try to bring together much of the published art and to provide updates for my FB friends. If anyone is interested, come take a look at: https://www.facebook.com/boon.stuart

The webiste is been migrated to an new hosting provider and server. Unfortunately the person responsible got taken I'll during the transfer, hence the continued downtime. We are hoping to have the site back up as soon as possible. In the meantime, you can always visit our forums at http://cubicle7.clicdev.com/f/index.php?trk=cubicle7&act=idx to ask about product progress.

Thanks very much, Paddurz. That means a lot. As I see it, this is my chance to give back to all those writers, artists and designers who've given me so many great role-playing experiences. With Shadows, I've done my utmost to add a little something to the Call of Cthulhu canon.

Cheers! :)

I have just received the full layout work-up on Shadows Over Scotland just this morning. I'm at work and can't really get into it until tonight, but Sarah Newton, editor extraordinaire, has already given it a high-level pass, declaring on FB: "Just done my first high-level layout pass on Shadows Over Scotland - looking gorgeous! Onwards and then to print, my babies...! XD" :)

After this edit, I think we've got one more before Shadows goes into print. We're almost there!

Hooray! So, when might we hope for it? June, maybe? Or even sooner?

I'm always hoping for sooner. Of course the PDF will be released even sooner. Neil or Angus might be able to shed more light here.

In the meantime, I'll keep updates coming.

Thanks, Stuart. I don't really know when I'll have a chance to use any of the stuff from the book; I don't imagine I'll be running anything in Scotland for the foreseeable future. But I still want the book! Who knows, with Avalon and Scotland and Folklore (no word on when that'll be out?), I may end up running a British campaign in the near future after all...

Fingers crossed I may get my hands on it at the UK Games Expo

Hello, folks. I received an e-mail from Cubicle 7 this morning and here's the news:

1. The final layout proof of Shadows Over Scotland will take place next week and the PDF version will be available to download near the end of May. The hardcover will follow some weeks after that.

2. When the book was fully laid out with the mounds of maps, art, and appendixes, it ran over-long to 320 pages. In order to bring it back to the budgeted 288 pages, the appendixes (plot maps, duplicate handouts, etc.) will now be provided as a downloadable PDF. In addition, the short scenario 'The Ballad of Bass Rock' will be separated out as well and made available as a PDF. This brings Shadows back to the required 288 pages.

3. Lastly, a further supplement for Shadows Over Scotland may also be a possibility. There are other Mythos manifestations, sites and cities (Dundee, Oban, and Stirling among others) and scenarios to be shared, if there is an audience for it in these financial times. This is only a tantalizing potential for the moment, but I thought I'd share it. ;-)

Thanks for the update, Stuart. The Table of Content hasn't been published, has it?

This is going to be my first C7 hard cover. :)

Mine too! ;)

No, the actual table of contents hasn't been released, to my knowledge. I'll defer to C7 staff to answer whether or not they'll be doing so. But if you are looking for a listing of contents, you can find it as the fifth post in this thread or over here.

Cheers!

Well, admittedly, I did write more than was necessary--I blame the subject matter... yes, yes, and my own enthusiasm--but I brought it down to the required word limit. Add in all the amazing art and a load of maps and suddenly *boom* you're 32 pages over the limit.

So, in short, I blame all the fantastic artists that have contributed such amazing atmospheric and gorgeously executed artwork. Naughty, naughty artists!

We don't normally release the table of contents for products prior to their release. We're busy enough getting the products out as it is.

And please keep yourself busy, Neil, the good Stuart had provided already (previously on the thread) what I was looking for, I just missed it completely.

As requested, here is a content teaser:

In addition to 7 scenarios (see below), Shadows Over Scotland is very much intended to be a resource for Keepers. There is a wealth of information for creating Scottish scenarios here, including:

While we wait for the release of the PDF and then hardcover, I've created a new page on the Yog-Sothoth.com CthulhuWiki for Shadows Over Scotland. Kudos to dce who has put a tremendous amount of work into the wiki.

There is also a small album of pre-released artwork on my FB author page, if folks are interested in checking out a small selection of the atmospheric art done for the book.

Any word on when it's going to be up and available to pre-order? I'm itching to part with some (not particularly well earned) cash.

Hi bobj,

I've been waiting for word myself on the release dates for the PDF and hardcover versions. I believe the PDF release is imminent.

Hopefully Angus (Cubicle 7) will be able to provide more information.

If I hear first, I'll post here. Cheers!

A wee update...

The final proof is here and Sarah Newton and other quality boffins at C7 are doing their magic before the book is sent to the printer (likely next week).

Not long now! :D
