  16. The Silver Lodge: 50 Shades of Lovecraft

    "The Parlour" features The Lodge book club and discussion of H.P. Lovecraft as a fictional character.
     
    The second part of the show, "The Library", covers the phenomenon of crowd funding (particularly Kickstarter and Indiegogo) and discusses findings by Geek Industrial Complex. Chris also tells us about his own forthcoming Kickstarter project.
     
    We read out postcards received and some feedback about the show.

    In "The Parlour", we talk to the organisers of UK Games Expo, Tony Hyams and Richard Denning.
     
    In "The Library" Chris discusses adapting Lovecraft which mysteriously leads into conversation about the viability of games shops and the nature of modern UK TV production. We also cover "D&D Next" and the great documentary about interwar airship flight: Around the World by Zeppelin.
     
    The books we're currently reading include: The Case of Charles Dexter Ward (graphic novel), the Tiffany Aching novels and Agatha Christie: The Grand Tour.

    In "The Library" we discuss the influence of music both during the interwar period and its use in games. We also tackle a second large subject: roleplaying games magazines, past, present and possible future. Both of these are actually giant topics we can only touch upon.

    In "The Parlour", we cover Carcosa and The Isle of the Unknown from Lamentations of the Flame Princess.
     
    In "The Library" we continue the old school fantasy theme with talk of old D&D editions and the upcoming D&D 5e. There's also "Lovecraft and the Holy Grail" (CoC/HPL rarities) and also what we're reading right now (The Dream-Quest of Unknown Kadath from Mockman Press, Keeping Bees, Superconductivity: A Very Short Introduction, The Ukulele: A Visual History and The Mexican Masked Wrestler and Monster Filmography.
     
    Looking into the "Cabinet of Curiosities" we ask, "How random do you like your game?". Jon gives a nod to Oblique Strategies.
