Comments / Trivia
The Brotherhood of the Beast campaign has been published by Chaosium on four occasions. The first publication was The Fungi from Yuggoth in 1984. This was reprinted in 1987 -- the latter has a slightly different cover, with a thin black bar across the top. The campaign was then reprinted in the anthology Curse of Cthulhu, where it made up the largest section of that book. This reprint did not substantially change the campaign's contents. This version is referred to here as the "1st Edition".
The campaign was thoroughly revised in 1998 and printed under the name Day of the Beast (referred to here as the "Revised Edition"). This version adds three scenarios to the beginning sections of the campaign, moves the optional scene on Celaeno into the main body of the text, and omits the Voice Out of Time optional scene.

The back story to the campaign is as follows.
In ancient Egypt, a priest called Nophru-Ka was a secret worshipper of Nyarlathotep. Nophru-Ka plotted against the Pharaoh but was assassinated. As he died, Nophru-Ka spoke a prophecy telling of the destruction of the Pharaoh’s kingdom.
In the 12th century AD, Baron Hauptman and Lang-Fu created the Brotherhood of the Beast to fulfil the prophecy. The Brotherhood protected the descendants of Nophru-Ka (the “Royal Family”) and laid the financial and political foundation for a plan called the Day of the Beast. On the Day of the Beast, terrorists will attack government leaders and monsters will be summoned to destroy cities across the globe.
In the present day, a famous medium, Paul LeMond, has visions of the Day of the Beast. These clues will lead the Investigators to key locations providing background information about the Brotherhood and their current activities.
