The scenario is presented in three parts: "The Investigation", "House of Dreams", and "Tracking Down Crater". It has three different antagonists: Josephine Garsetti, Ezekiel Crater, and The Thing Hanging in the Void.

The investigators are asked to look into the disappearance of Andrew Keetling, a Boston art collector. The normally retiring businessman has recently been dating an aspiring artist, Josephine Garsetti, but neither of them have been seen in two weeks. Three of the young woman's possibly Mythos-based paintings hang in Keetling's study.

Josephine Garsetti has for years been under the influence of The Thing Hanging in the Void, a living nightmare that feeds upon human souls and dwells in the Dreamlands. Blood sacrifices in the presence of an ancient artifact called the Dark Stone draw The Thing closer to our waking world, and it needs only one more victim to complete its goal. Following the recent destruction of her murderous Boston cult by police, Garsetti has returned to her hometown of Muskrat Rapids, Pennsylvania with both Andrew Keetling and the Dark Stone.

Ezekiel Crater, a notorious Boston gangster and bootlegger, had been the previous owner of the Dark Stone and he wants it back. The artifact came into his possession by accident and gave him amazing powers until it was stolen by Garsetti. During the theft, Garsetti transformed Crater into a quasi-insectoid creature and Crater hopes that he can use the Dark Stone to change himself back.

The investigators begin their adventure in Boston but will likely travel to Muskrat Rapids in Pennsylvania and also to Crater's mansion a few miles outside of Boston.

Keeper Comments

The initial investigation is firmly set in Boston, but it wouldn't take much work for the Keeper to move it or the other locations elsewhere.

The year of the scenario isn't given, but aside from the references to gangsters and bootlegging it could conceivably be set in any era.
