Jérôme Donat invites several friends and acquaintances to dinner at his home in Sainte-Marguerite, Normandy. In reality, he has invited them there to settle various scores festering within him, drawing upon his mother's vindictive nature and his father's occult interests. Using a jade bat head his father collected in the Far East, and waiting for the stars to align, Donat invites the guests to his home and then sends them to the Empire of Shadows; he even offers up his own daughter, Juliette. In exchange, he draws the Eunuch of Dark Felicities to give him dark power and knowledge.

Campaigns / Scenarios: Les 5 supplices
The scenario takes place in the 1920s, several years before the main campaign story of Les 5 supplices. The scenario acts as a sequel to another scenario in the same book, "J’ai peur de mon ombre," which takes place forty years earlier. The Keeper information suggests that some of the investigators may be older versions of those who took part in "J'ai peur de mon ombre." Indeed, the scenarios can be run in either order; if "Treize à table" comes first, "J'ai peur de mon ombre" can be run as a flashback. Similarly, the time between each scenario is flexible and need not be a full forty years.
