The Whisperer in Darkness (2011 film)

Summary

Filmed by the HPLHS in imitation of period black-and-white "talkie" horror films and based on Lovecraft's "The Whisperer in Darkness (fiction)". For the first two acts, the plot follows the short story, in which a farmer in a rural area of Vermont finds odd footprints that are alien in origin, and together with a skeptical professor and an occult investigator gets drawn into a deadly alien conspiracy. In the third act, the protagonists uncover an attempt by cultists to open a gateway between Yuggoth and Earth.

Tentacle Ratings

A rough measure of how "Lovecraftian" the work is:

  • SSSSS (Five Tentacles: definitively Lovecraftian; everything you'd expect from a Lovecraft adaptation and more)

For the first two acts, the plot follows the short story. In the third act, the protagonist uncovers an attempt by cultists to open a gateway between Yuggoth and Earth.

Note: This rating is not intended as a measure of quality, merely of how closely related to Lovecraftian "Weird" fiction the work is.
