Preface of Mythos

  • Using Mythos as a preface to too many things reduces it's usefullness. Mythos:Entities and Mythos: Locations and Mythos and Mythos:Personalites, etc. won't do anyone any good. It's all Mythos, after all, isn't it?--Jeff Campbell 20:59, 24 January 2006 (EST)
Good question. Suggest changes. --Squashua 09:47, 25 January 2006 (EST)
  • Very well. I suggest a section on the main page- these subjects are likely to be heavily used; I know that I will use them a lot when planning for my gaming sessions. I have always liked the evocative titles given in the D20 Call of Cthulhu rules when they broke up the Mythos for consideration when writing a scenario. I believe they were Mysterious Places, Forbidden Tomes, things like that. When I get home, I'll look them up, and add them to the bottom of the main page, and start making entries. If people hate 'em, they don't need to stay.--Jeff Campbell 17:28, 25 January 2006 (EST)
    • Fancy names ("Forbidden Books") are good for evoking a theme and such, but for a wiki they simply end up taking a lot of space at the top of the page, which is why I refrained from using them. --Squashua 10:06, 26 January 2006 (EST)
  • I'll be honest, I didn't understand what Squashua was suggesting when I first read this. But in any case, I did need an in-game category, so I picked myth. It could have been better; it will conflict with mythos; if it doesn't fly, I guess we'll go in and change it.--Jeff Campbell 00:25, 26 January 2006 (EST)
    • My original concept with this was to set in place a method of organization, something that the majority of Wikis use (and this one does not), called Categories. If we categorize sections, it helps formulate an index. As you suggested, a Category for home-brew pages is an excellent idea, but using the name "Myth" seems a little conflictive with "Mythos". I recommend selecting a different name, and would suggest a different name if I could think of one.--Squashua 10:04, 26 January 2006 (EST)
    • I agree that "Myth" isn't the greatest. But you don't understand what I am trying to do. It's not home-brew pages, it's a lexicon/encyclopedia of Mythos people, places, and things, hyperlinked together. An encyclopedia of Mythos authors, publications and artists has it's uses, but it won't help me run a Call of Cthulhu game. A hyperlinked and growing wiki in the same vein as Harm's excellent "Encyclopedia Cthulhiana" would be very useful. That is what I am trying to get started. As for a category, how about Encyclopedia, Lexicon, or Glossary?--Jeff Campbell 11:42, 26 January 2006 (EST)
