A subset of the Cthulhu Mythos invented by Lin Carter in the short stories collected in The Xothic Legend Cycle; the pantheon for this story cycle centers around the family of Cthulhu, the lost continent of Mu, the island of Ponape, and the tome known as The Ponape Scripture; Lin Carter appears to have been inspired by August Derleth's formalized Cthulhu Mythos, with elaborations from later writers.
According to the Xothic Cycle mythos, Cthulhu and his "bride" Idh-yaa are the parents of Zoth-Ommog, Ythogtha, Ghatanothoa, and Cthylla; Hastur is a half-brother of Cthulhu, Aphoom-Zhah is the spawn of Cthugha, and several minor Elder Gods are the spawn of Aphoom-Zhah. Cthulhu and most of his children are imprisoned in and around R'lyeh and Ponape, in the vicinity of the lost continent of Mu, while Idh-yaa waits on Xoth for Cthulhu's return; in offshoots of this cycle, Cthulhu is not yet dead but will one day die, only to be reborn as the child of his own daughter Cthylla, while the Yuggs and their leader Ubb (AKA "Ub-Bg'zth") together with Deep Ones and the hybrid Yuggya cheer-lead from the cosmic sidelines; the details of this whole sordid family affair are to be found in the forbidden tome The Ponape Scripture, for those who believe their sanity strong enough to learn more....
