I finally found copies of both of the above discussed readings:

"David McCallum Reads The Dunwich Horror" and "Roddy McDowall Reads Horror Stories Of H. P. Lovecraft".

I also have McCallum's "Rats In The wall" and "Dracula" readings.

I'm working now on gettting them ripped to my PC to share.

If you manage to get permission from the publishing companies to share those it would be nice to hear. If not they will still fall under copyright restrictions.

Through this entire thread I don't recall anyone else discussing asking the publishing companies permission to download these readings from all of the links posted where they found them. Kind of hypocritical and strange to bring it up this late in the discussion isn't it??

No. It's not meant to be hypocritical. If people have recordings and would like to share them here, it's only the right thing to do to seek permission first.

Where it hasn't been said before it's believed some sort of permission has been sought. Regarding the Roddy McDowall recordings I know permission is difficult as I have a copy of the RM recordings but haven't posted them here having sought permission to do so but not yet received it. If you have permission, that's good news.

Got it today. Very professional-looking CD case. I'm going to have a listen to it tomorrow I think.

By filing an Ebay Search Request I've been able to find vinyl copies of the Roddy McDowell Lovecraft LP, and David McCallum "Dracula" and "Dunwich Horrors" LPs. So far the most I've paid was $37.00 for the Dracula LP. It's weird with ebay sometimes. I went almost a year waiting for a hit on the Roddy McDowall LP. The week I finally got notified one was avialable two other copies showed up for auction the very same week.

I had a little trouble with the CD. First one had a couple of tracks that didn't work but they were very good about having me mail it back in and replacing it. The replacement is fine though there is a little echo. Unsure if this is on the original vinal or not.

All in all, I'm satisfied with this and enjoyed listening to it. Thumbs up.

Yes that is how the original vinyl sounds. I'm not sure if it was intentional on the part of CAEDMON for it to sound that way for some kind of effect or what. It's almost as if Roddy is reading the story in a great big auditorium or something. I've noticed that the David McCallum LPs I have don't have that echo to them.

THANK YOU for that information. Good to know that what I have sounds like the real thing. Thanks.

How about Paul of Cthulhu reads "Call of Cthulhu" and sells it on iTunes?

Here's a short sample of Roddy McDowall's reading of The Hound (1963) along with a comparison with the Duke St Workshop reading by Laurence R. Harvey (some 52 years later).
