My wife was flicking through National Geographic and came across some photos of viking jewellery and wondered if any form of copyright exists on such things. Obviously, being centuries old, the creator or their descendants have no copyright claim, but does the museum or individual that owns it?
If I saw something in a museum, for example that I thought would make a nice trinket. Is there anything to stop me making copies and selling them on Etsy? (to be fair, copyright and IP laws don't tend to stop people on Etsy anyway )
I've no intention of doing any of this and I'm not thinking about any one object in particular but it was an interesting question and I thought this would the ideal place to get a layman's answer.
