Laird Barron, as many may know, is a brilliant author of cosmic horror, much of it set in Alaska or otherwise backwoods locations. Many of his stories read like the blackest, bleakest Delta Green scenarios - I have no idea if he ever played, but the flavour is definitely similar. His latest collection, with even more emphasis on brutal slambang than usual, is "Swift to Chase." I reviewed it elsewhere and recommend it unreservedly.

"What nameless shapes may even now lurk in the dark places of the world?"

Ok, that review impressed me. If the work is even half deserving of such praise it will be the best short story collection I've purchased all year! Now ordering from Amazon. (via Yog-sothoth portal naturally. :) )

The Optimist in me says we live in the best of all possible worlds...The Pessimist in me believes this is true.
