Over on the Cthulhu Reborn blog, we have recently announced our next freebie PDF book, Convicts & Cthulhu. This is a 50,000+ word sourcebook which aims to provide CoC Keepers and players to run scenarios and campaigns set in the earliest eras of Australian history -- the "convict era".

We will be releasing some sneak peeks and previews over the next few weeks, with the full product (hopefully) being available for general release in June. You can see the archive of all Convicts & Cthulhu related postings/previews by clicking this link. At the moment there's just the initial announcement, but more material is coming soon.

I've been looking forward to this! You said this is a freebie? That's a lot of work for a freebie. Wow.

I too was surprised at it being free.

I'm not complaining mind, but maybe if you put up a pay what you want type thing you might get some recompense for your work. Just a thought!

Both Geoff and I are quite keen to make it available as a freebie ... although I may look into ways for people to "donate" something to help offset the costs of art and also to help keep Cthulhu Reborn going. But basically it'll be free.

Now that I am well into the layout, it is starting to look like quite a sizeable freebie as well -- my current guess is that the final PDF will check in somewhere between 80 and 96 pages.

I have seen some PDFs on Rpgnow and drivethrurpg in the format of pay what you want. For instance the new Delta Green - Need to Know.

I believe that might be a suitable model as some of us do want to recognize your effort and hard work in this.

Definitely do a Pay As You Go system, at the very least.

Thanks to everyone who is willing to pay ... I will certainly look into providing options for chipping in a few dollars if you want to do so.

In the meantime ... there's a new Convicts & Cthulhu related posting over on the Cthulhu Reborn blog. I am hoping to put up a few more in coming days, just to introduce the unique setting and give some ideas about how we chose to infect it with the Cthulhu Mythos :)

I'd pay for this if it were available in print on demand.

I've recently been uploading free material to Lulu and getting it printed. I did Gong Farmers Almanac, an OSR zine that came in 6 issues, and turned it into a hardback book. I've just put a book on Forensic Science in the 1920's from Project Gutenberg up and had that printed but not yet received it. If you put stuff up and generally mark it accessible only by you only then they'll print anything I believe so even if Dean and crew don't do a POD version then you can fairly easily do it yourself with the Lulu wizards to help.

For those who are interested, I've posted some more info on the upcoming Cthulhu Reborn book Convicts & Cthulhu over on the blog.

Probably the key information is the final page count and target release date -- it will be a 96 page freebie book, to be released sometime around June 1.

And for those who have a burning desire to contribute a small donation to offset some of the costs of production ... there will be an option to do so :)

I happened to see this today, Dean - and noticed it's now available, and a couple of days early too! :) I've just downloaded it and have been leafing through the PDF. It looks a superb resource and, as always with your work, such a treat for the eyes!

Thanks to you and Geoff for making this available - I hope lots of people throw some coins your way for doing this!

Ah yes ... as Brian noticed, I hit the switch a few hours ago to put the PDF for Convicts & Cthulhu "on-sale" over on RPGNow. It's a "Pay-What-You-Want" title, which means you can nab it for free if you so wish (which being a cheapskate myself I fully endorse!), or if you feel the urge to throw a small donation to the Cthulhu Reborn cool-things fund you can. Please don't feel obligated, though, Geoff and I feel really strongly about making it a FREE product.

The RPGNow product link is: http://www.rpgnow.co...nvicts--Cthulhu ... if you want to grab it free of charge, just put zero dollars into the "Pay-What-You-Want" box and proceed to checkout.

So this RPG is set in the earliest days, ie the 1700s?

So this RPG is set in the earliest days, ie the 1700s?

Pretty much ... the historical period it aims to specifically cover is from about 1795 to 1810, but it would probably be useful for games set any time after the arrival of Europeans in 1788.

BTW it's not a standalone RPG, but a sourcebook for CoC 7th Edition (i.e., you still need the Call of Cthulhu rules).

The quality of finish, art and layout of this is exceptional for a "freebie" ( I paid something ).

Haven't actually read the contents yet but I'm amazed at the level of finesse.

Many, many thanks.
