The Cthulhu Breakfast Club, a place where Yoggie podcast hosts meet in the convivial surroundings of a Yorkshire tearoom.

Marty, Chris, Fin, Val and I get together and take the opportunity to talk about Lovecraftiana, games and more.

If you enjoy what you find, you can support these meetings through Patreon (and help out with the odd cup of tea or a biscuit or two).

If you're a Patreon supporter ("Breakfast Clubber") or YSDC Patron you can also access occasional extras.

The first meeting of The Cthulhu Breakfast Club is dedicated to the memory of Sir Terry Pratchett.

These shows are recorded in a live (and lively!) working tearoom environment, so the background hubbub is what it is I'm afraid (along with our casual discussions about fine food and drink).

In this first meeting of the Breakfast Club we talk about:
  • The Long Con (Trail of Cthulhu scenario)
  • Alone Against the Dark (Solo Call of Cthulhu adventure)
  • Sense-Impacts (Call of Cthulhu soundtrack)
  • Eternal Lies Audio Game (YSDC recordings)
  • Terry Pratchett (In memoriam)
  • How much prep for your game sessions?
  • Yoggie's Post Office Box
  • UK Games Expo 2015

I've had some comments regarding audio clarity (not surprising considering the recording environment).

I've suggested some possible solutions. Thoughts most welcome!

If you follow the @YSDC Twitter account you'll know we have a promotional Dice Tower in the works. I just received the prototype and it's turned out rather well. It's wooden, flat-packable and no glue necessary for assembly.

We'll start giving them away as promotional items from The Cthulhu Breakfast Club 04 onwards. They'll also be available to purchase (at cost) from us until the end of 2015.

Just a few words to say how happy I am to hear how the crew finally hit the nail on the head about the problems that have been going for years at Chaosium.

Had wanted to speak this out for a long time but couldn't really on that forum because of the 'institutional' feeling of the podcast ignoring the elephant in the room and avoiding criticism on new publications, be they from Chaosium or elsewhere. Same thing as for the MUP podcast.

Hopefully people will talk more openly as from now on !

Best !

There have been a number of occasions where we've criticised aspects of Chaosium (and others) in the past (an immediate example in mind being the re-publication of Curse of the Chthonians a little while ago and how the presentation seemed to have gone backwards in the intervening 30 years) but some of those comments are on The Silver Lodge show which is mostly Patron-only, so won't be heard as widely as CBC.

Generally we try to take an understanding view of situations, publishing is hard, especially for RPG-related businesses; as we know from experience it's a tough market, but if something is very much "off" then we should say so. ;-)

I applaud the honesty of your members in actually discussing the negatives as well as the positives in the situation with Chaosium.  I concur that June should be a hard reset for all of us, though my own mixed feelings on the whole thing have undoubtedly been obvious to you all.  If we're living the Star Wars trilogy here, then I guess this is the one called "A New Hope."  We can only hope it ends as well as the movie did.  But it is important, in my opinion, to look at things honestly and without blinkers on, and I think you all did that very well.  So thank you for that.

I also want to express my complete satisfaction with the new sound system.  Well worth the small amount of money I kicked in, and I'm very, very glad so many others joined as well to upgrade your audio -- its a definite improvement and made the whole listening experience that much more enjoyable.

Not too far behind the June edition of The Cthulhu Breakfast Club comes the one for July.

In this meeting we discuss:

Louder than thou, new Dice Towers arrive, DART: The Horror at Red Hook, Graeme Davis interview, De Horrore Cosmico, US 1920s travel guides, World War Cthulhu: Cold War KS, Pelgrane’s countdown clock expiring, win one of three copies of Tabletop Gaming magazine, Ash vs Evil Dead, YSDC Games Day IV and Cthulhu on Pluto.

We also announce the two winners of The Cthulhu Breakfast Club Dice Towers in this show.

We're still learning the new equipment set-up. Every time we use it we make further improvements. The overall audio is definitely better though!

I started listening to these recordings tonight with the first one. Good quality and well paced with interesting information.

I just wanted to mention that when you were reading the postcards the monograph Sevenfold Path was attributed to me. That is incorrect. It was written by Jeffrey Moeller.

Thanks for the correction. We simply read out the card. ;-)

Glad you're enjoying the new show. The audio quality does improve from June onwards as we go from a little Zoom H1 mic on the table, to this:

Hosts' favoured meal does seem to be scrambled eggs with mushrooms on toast.

That was my error, from not having written down the correct info before we left for Iceland. I'd corrected this in the Postcard thread, but I probably should have done so here at the same time.

Hi Sam,

Glad you like it!

If anyone's after a dice tower, we're running low on numbers at the moment but should have a restock of supplies in September.
