Currently working our way over several nights through their chocolate sachertorte...

Bettys Grand Cru Chocolate Sachertorte is probably the most intensely chocolate chocolate cake I've ever tried.

Soup for lunch, cheese and crackers for tea.

I am drinking -- and drink invariably, save for half a glass of sherry in the evening when I can afford it -- Thea sinensis (Linn.), latterly known as Camellia sinensis (Sweet) sub-species assamica  which in ordinary terms is the good old cup of tea (very strong with milk, sugar an anathema).

On the subject of Betty's in York, a city I have only visited, it is renowned, but I personally prefer the Earl Grey tearooms in the Shambles, which serves excellent curd tarts and has a charming collection of mock-Greek figural plates in one of the corners.

I've got a cuppa. I've been at a conference for the last two days and this is the first good cuppa I've had at my desk since Tuesday. When it has done it's magic and revitalised me, I'm going home.

I have a very pleasant Nettle Tea which I find eases my joints.

Now written six horrible dark style fantasies! The World Unseeing, (now known as Dragon), A King In Graeffenland, Princess of Bones, Metacosmoclypse, Once A Knight, and Hand & Eye. Sixty pages in on Jaeson Smiths own novel, might be ready by Christmas. Maybe.

That looks very nice. I'm on the tea at the moment but tonight I've got  jar of Bigos. You'll be pleased to know that it doesn't contain any mechanically separated meat but it does have slightly strange instructions:

Consumption method: contents of the package put into the pot, heat it, stirring occasionally. Serve hot with bread, potatoes or other additives.

But hey, my Polish isn't up to much even I do have a copy of Horror W Orient Ekspresie.

Tonight's supper for me is a hefty portion of taleggio cheese, spread on slices of baguette bread. It's the first soft-ish cheese I've tried, and is very delicious and creamy. And very very nice on crusty bread.

After last night's first session of nameless, Helen and I went to Bettys in Ilkley for brunch. I had the Christmas rösti (with free-range chicken breast, smoked streaky bacon, caramelised red onions and cranberry sauce).

Very nice (and filling).

Finishing off a tub of Cornish clotted cream ice cream, to make room for Christmas food in the freezer. Well that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it ;)
