Perhaps you could add a new level thats the equivalent for non-US and call it "international statesman" or similar ? Might get you around the problem?

Congrats on the support so far, its going well !

Please check out our latest Backer Level - Foreign Correspondent! It has all the same rights and privileges as Local Diplomat but is able to cross international lines with ease! Now everyone, all over the world, can participate in voting for the specifics of The Mystery Scenario!

Greeting Golden Goblin Fans!

I am certain many of you have become backers to our Kickstarter campaign and/or helped us spread the word of our project. You have our thanks! The first few days have been really productive as the project is racing towards its funding goal.

But that will hardly be the end. There is so much more lurking in the shadows, waiting to creep out into the light. Yes, I am talking about stretch goals; oh yes, we have them. More articles and scenarios by established mythos authors! More art! Partnerships with other great mythos companies!

Do you want to know more? Keep checking the Kickstarter page and help us get the word out. Golden Goblin Press will announce the first three stretch goals when we reach 80% funded!

Greetings everyone!

As the Kickstarter for The Island of Ignorance – The Third Cthulhu Companion marches forward exciting developments are taking form. First off, we are quickly creeping towards the 75% funded mark. What does that mean? It means that we’ll be revealing the details of our stretch goals, and trust me, we have a few surprised in store for everyone.

Today we also got a really wonderful update from our sculptor, Joe Broers! For our Golden Goblin level backers, we’re offering one of only a dozen Golden Goblin Idols. Or should I say one of eleven, because a mysterious backer known only as Owlglass has already claimed one. We here at Golden Goblin Press thank you Owlglass! Work has already begun! Take a look below, and dart over to our Kickstarter page to learn more.

The total is sitting at $34.00 from the 75% mark.
The next few backers will push it to the point where the stretch goals are announced!

Yes, we're keeping a close eye on the campaign. We're putting together the full details of the first three stretch goals as we speak, and will give a little teaser information about the goals beyond that. Currently we have nine goals planned. We're busy, ambitious little goblins.

OH WAIT! Nevermind that... we just HIT 75% funded! Our Stretch Goals will be posted shortly, both here and on the Kickstarter page.

Thank You!

Here are the first three stretch goals for the Island of Ignorance - The Third Cthulhu Companion. We'll be posting more information about the further goals soon, there is a lot more planned beyond this.

$9,500.00; Stretch Goal #1; A Terrible Inspiration – Our artists shall suffer horrible nightmares, and awaken driven to frantically create fantastic maps and frightening illustrations. Has the dreaded star Aldebaran risen above the horizon? Was there an underwater earthquake in the pacific? Who cares? YOU get the benefits from their tortured, terrible inspiration! The interior art, both maps and illustrations, of Island of Ignorance – The Third Cthulhu Companion is increased by 20%!

$10,000.00; Stretch Goal #2; Dark Gods and Dread Tomes – Two new articles will be added to Island of Ignorance – The Third Cthulhu Companion. One details creatures and cultists of a little known god, while the other tells the history of a rare Serbian mythos tome written by an 18th century vampire hunter.

Dweller in Darkness by Tyler Hudak – He Who Comes in the Dark, the Great Old One Bugg-Shash, is little known, but very dangerous. Worshipped only by solitary madmen and sorcerers, we “shed light” on its servitors, learning why only the most fool-hardy would ever attempt to summon The Black One.

The Knjiga Mrtva (or Book of the Dead) by Eckhard Hülshoff – When Dr. Marin Kolar killed his first vampire in 1795, it lead the wealthy Serbian physician down a dark and dangerous path. He soon learned that there were more dangerous things lurking in the shadows than vampires. Shortly before Dr. Kolar mysteriously vanished in 1823, he sent a manuscript to his nephew. Those pages, detailing all Dr. Kolar had learned and seen, were published as the Knjiga Mrtva, or Book of the Dead.

$11,500.00; Stretch Goal #3; Worst Vacation Ever – We will add a fourth scenario to Island of Ignorance – The Third Cthulhu Companion. By now, your frazzled investigators might need to relax on a quiet sunny beach and maybe drink a glass or two of rum. Golden Goblin Press is very proud to offer…

With Blue Uncertain Stumbling by Jeff Moeller – For about a year now, a harmless little ghost story has been circulating around the rum dives and swanky resorts of Key West, Florida. It tells of a beautiful woman, dressed in black, seen only in reflections. Just a story, until the specter was seen by dozens of people in a mirror behind a bar at a society party. The image was also photographed, and none of the city fathers think it’s a harmless tale anymore. The investigators are invited to vacation in Key West and do a bit of debunking. Unless they do their homework, they might not ever come back.

Backed at Private eye. I'm not one for PDF's so if that other adventure could be in print, then I'd happily pay extra for that.

Lurking in the Shadows, Further Stretch Goals

Every time a stretch goal is reached we’ll post the full details of another one. For now, here's a peek at what we hope to offer (subject to change).

Together Again – Two new articles by Tom Lynch and Oscar Rios.

Side Trails –A PDF of conversion statistic so all the scenarios within Island of Ignorance can be played using the Trail of Cthulhu system.

Back To New England (A Fifth Scenario!) - "Darkness Illuminated" by Jon Hook.

A Further Mystery – Ten useful lists every Keeper needs AND we will add an additional Mystery Scenario created from the second place votes to our Mystery PDF. Remember, the Mystery PDF is provided to backers at the Private Eye Level or higher.

Simply the Best - Custom handouts for our scenarios created by the H.P. Lovecraft Historical Society.

Lost in Time and Space (A Sixth Scenario!!) – A scenario lost for over 25 years, written by one of Call of Cthulhu's true golden age greats. Golden Goblin Press will proudly present…"Cold Warning" by Scott David Aniolowski.

Golden Goblin Press is offering conversion statistics for Trail of Cthulhu as a stretch goal for its Islands of Ignorance – The Third Cthulhu Companion Kickstarter Campaign. Golden Goblin Press hopes to be able to share its dark vision of the Cthulhu Mythos with fans of the Trail of Cthulhu system. We are grateful to our new friends at Pelgrane Press to be allowed the opportunity to do so. We have named this stretch goal...

Johnny Came Marching Home
Mechanics for Playing a Military Veteran

By Oscar Rios

Suddenly, out of the darkness came a rushing figure and the flash of steel. A robed man lunged forward, wielding a long curved knife. John Dunn, a taxi driver, reacted before either of his companions. With fluid motions, he stepped back and jerked the barrel of his rifle upwards and left, roughly slamming the man’s forearm and ruining his attack. John then shifted his weight and reversed the motion of his rifle. The man’s hands were wide open now, tossed above his head by the expect parry. Before the man could recover, John’s rifle’s butt slammed squarely into the attacker’s face. There was a sickening crack of bone, and the man dropped like a sack of flour, blood pouring from a broken nose and shattered front teeth. John raised his foot, about to slam his boot down on the helpless man’s temple, but stopped himself and stepped away.

Behind him, his companions, Edwin, a police officer, and Simon, a private eye, stood dumbstruck. They’d barely raised their handguns, but the battle was already over. They searched the now unconscious attacker, putting him in handcuffs and stuffing a rag into his mouth to gag him. Edwin and Simon, who’d worked together investigating strange supernatural cases for years, turned to the mild mannered taxi driver they’d met just yesterday. John had insisted on helping them in the search for Penelope Yolen, a missing nine year old abducted by the mysterious worshippers of The King in Yellow. They couldn’t really say no; Penelope was his niece.

“Okay, Officer 440,” Simon jested, referring to a popular secret agent movie serial hero, “where’d a taxi driver learn moves like that?”

John turned, his eyes sudden cold. He whispered, “In the Marines. 2nd Division, American Expeditionary Force. Now let’s wake this bastard up, and find out where they took my sister’s baby girl.”

From April 1917 until November 1918, the United States sent its sons to fight and die in the deadliest conflict the world had ever seen, The Great War. Afterwards, four and a half million men came home and re-entered American society. But, these were not the same men who had left. Many had suffered grave injuries, both physical and psychological. They returned as heroes to a country in the grips of an economic depression, where jobs were few and hard to come by. They had the respect of their countrymen and they supported one another long after the conflict ended, but felt forgotten by the government they fought to defend.

The Great War Veteran has long been a favored backstory for many a Call of Cthulhu investigator. Players have often distributed their skills creatively in an attempt to reflect their investigator’s military experiences. However, without a formalized mechanic to follow, such efforts often prove hit and miss. This article hopes to set a structured framework for building an investigator of any profession who is also a Great War veteran. These investigators have advantages as well as penalties, reflection of their medals and scars, their victories and sacrifices, the friends they made and the ones they lost too soon.

The following rules are specifically written for male, American Great War veterans. The experience of veterans from other nations differs from that of the American servicemen, as their wars were longer, their casualties and likelihood of frontline service greater. Also, while women did serve in the militaries of many nations, their experience was also much different. Keepers can alter these rules as they see fit to better suit the creation of female Great War veterans, or veterans from other nations.

The Veteran Investigator – The veteran isn’t a profession, but a history. Players choose a profession for their investigator and then decide whether that character is also a military veteran. A librarian, mechanic, milkman, accountant, policeman, or gangster could all have served their country during the Great War. While four and a half million American men returned from military service, less than a quarter of them saw actual combat. To reflect this disparity, the Veteran Background is divided into two types, Non-Combat Veterans and Combat Veterans.

Hello everyone,

We’re really excited to share the news that Master Mythos Sculptor Joe Broers has finished work on the Golden Goblin Idol! Originally created by the author R.E. Howard in his mythos story The Black Stone, The Golden Goblin is an artifact steeped in mystery. Our Golden Goblin Idol is a limited edition collectable being produced exclusively for the Island of Ignorance – The Third Cthulhu Companion Kickstarter campaign. Only a dozen are ever going to be made available to the public and two of those have already been claimed. Golden Goblin Press would like to remind everyone that Mothers Day and Fathers Day are both right around the corner. We can’t think of a better gift than this!

Congrats on hitting the project's $9k goal this weekend.

THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!

Everyone here at Golden Goblin Press is thrilled to have reached this milestone! We look forward to bringing everyone the best Call of Cthulhu supplement we possibly can, but our work isn't done yet. We have many wonderful stretch goals to strive towards, enough to double the size of Island of Ignorance - The Third Cthulhu Companion.

But, as they say in Arkham Sanitarium, all work and no play makes an investigator indefinitely insane.

So this coming Saturday Golden Goblin Press will be visiting our friends at Myriad Games on Staten Island for our first public promotional event! Oscar Rios - President of Golden Goblin Press, and Sean Forster, executive minion, will be running games for Island of Ignorance - The Third Cthulhu Companion's backers. We'll be taking pictures, filming and doing some audio recordings at the event so our far off fans can also enjoy the event.

So please join us a Myriad Games: Staten Island 1650 Richmond Ave., Staten Island, New York 10314 (347-974-2637) from 5 pm until 11:30 pm this coming Saturday May 11th, 2013.

But with everything Golden Goblin Press does, there's a chance for peril, horror and doom. Cultists of the King In Yellow may attempt a summoning. If they succeed, He Who Should Not Be Named shall appear and bring madness, chaos and woe to all who behold his horrific visage. So yeah, good times!

Thank you all! We hope to see some of you this weekend.

Thank you also to Myriad Games, for the generous invitation!
