It’s time for the Secret Shoggoth again. That special time of year when we trade tribaubles to grow as a community, last year went more or less well and I think this year will be just as good and likely better.

Here’s how it works:
You send me a private message that includes:
Your name
Your address
Where you would be willing to ship a gift be it anywhere, the UK or just within your own country etc. There are plenty of Yoggies around, so if you don’t want to send something over any oceans or can’t afford it, that’s fine we always have had more people willing to ship anywhere than we need.

The second post in this thread will have a list of people taking part, so if you don't see your name three days after you send me a PM to sign up. Let me know.

Then, buy a gift, the price ought to be $20-25 or so. If you want to wait to see who you get then that’s fine but the closer to December we get the worse the shipping time becomes.
On Nov 24, I'll assign you someone to gift and send you their address.
Also, on the 25th at some point to be announced closer I'll need some people and the chatroom so we can roll to see who gets who, think of it as rolling on the treasure table from the old DMG.

As soon as you get your assigned shoggee, send them a gift, the gift should arrive by Dec 15th.
If for some reason something goes wrong let me know. Immediately, maybe sooner.
Rules:
1. Gifts ought to cost around $20-25 USD.
2. The $20-25 is before shipping, so as cool as it is to send a life sized bronze Star Spawn statue, you might want to look for something lighter.
3. The gifts ought to arrive by Dec 15. If there is a problem with this, let me know.
3a. If you can get a shipping number, that’s cool. You don’t have to but it will make any kind of trouble more avoidable. Also, you don’t have to but when you get your package, it'd be nice of you to note it here so your shoggoth knows that everything arrived.
4. If for some reason the gift won’t arrive or something goes wrong. Contact me immediately.
5. You must have been a member of Yog before I posted this. Ahem: You must have been a member of Yog before October 25th, okay, October 24th in most of your time zones so Manilianus can take part but no one who joined after them.

You guys are better than this but let’s just put it out there.
6. Keep it clean and legal, no shipping booze to kids, guns to Britain or lock picks to Canada. Or midget-shoggoth porn to anyone.
7. Contact me if something goes wrong. Again, the sooner I hear from someone the sooner I can fix things.
8. There’s precious little anyone can do to you if you don’t send a gift. But we're Yoggies and above that kind of thing.

Thoughts:
Let’s assume that everyone already has their copies of Uttati Asfet and the Bermuda Triangle.
You might want to send your real name along unless you want a package showing up for some dude named Ten_Inch_Psudopod.
You may want to post a quick idea roll about what you want but you have no promises as to what you'll get. You may also want to post about what you have, if say you already own every monograph, then you’d want to mention that so you don’t get another copy of The Abby to adorn your Dark Ages shelf with.
Also, the gifts don’t have to have anything to do with Cthulhu, I understand many people love tea and Doctor Who, though you might want to look into things your shogee likes.
Those of us who live in far flung and fantastic locations may find it extra good to post a short list of electronic things we lust after, the Chaosium eBook explosion and DrivethroughRPG both will be happy to get an ecopy of a book to Antarctica much faster than the standard messenger albino penguin.

I'm in. I'll even sit there on an early morning rolling dice and reporting the numbers to you, CA, just like last year :)

Dear Secret Shoggoth,

I don’t really need any more CoC material, as my doctor won’t let me read any more of it (that, and I have most of what I want). Mythos-themed props are always appreciated; I drool whenever I glance at the HPLHS website (last year's gift of the Deep One stones were fantastic!). Statuary, idols, or graven images could find a place on my cluttered alta, er, shelves. They don’t let me have a television or computer in here, so no digital media, please. This year at GenCon I saw all of the Arkham Horror MONSTER minis and started to put a bunch in my basket - but then realized that finding room for a full-sized Dhol in my luggage was going to be a problem. Luckily, I know my postman has an extradimensional bag, so it's not a problem for him.

I'm in again as well.

Dear Secret Shoggoth,

Much of my CoC collection is in a PDF format, but I love getting the "dead tree" editions of them as well. So I would welcome in open arms a copy of Keeper's Companion Vol. One, or Keeper's Companion Vol. Two as a physical copy. But I understand something like that may be difficult to come by. So something new I have yet to pick up is Pagan's Bumps in the Night. Always love the Pagan goodness. And, in a previous year, my Secret Shoggoth surprised me with a Dark Adventure Radio Theatre cd from the H. P. Lovecraft Historical Society. This was amazing!!! The story I got was the amazing At the Mountains of Madness! So if my Secret Shoggoth wanted to select another Dark Adventure Radio Theatre cd, then I would love that as well. And of course, if my Secret Shoggoth is inspired to do something completely different and surprising, then I would love that even more.

Hats off to CAThompson for organizing this each year! :)

Edit - Oh, I just thought of something else I'd be very interested in. The new Ian Livingstone Fighting Fantasy book, "Blood of the Zombies."

I'm in :)

I'd like a surprise, really.

On a more serious front I have a lot of trouble reading print now, due to brain damage. So pages after pages of dense print are a problem. But picture books are good. And books that are less text-heavy, so better laid out, possibly with pictures :)

I really like ghost stories, so would appreciate books about local ghouls and legends from anywhere at all.

I have lots of RPG/Call of Cthulhu PDF books, but am always up for more. Scanning through my RPGNow wishlist for example I'd like anything from Colonial Gothic, KOBOLD Guide to Game Design, Vol. 3: Tools & Techniques, and any of Trail of Cthulhu: The Purist Adventures.

I should probably also mention I have an Amazon UK wishlist.

And I love graphic novels :)

I am in and now for the umpteenth year in a row...

By now, I have everything I could ever want for Call of Cthulhu and Trail of Cthulhu (and more than a few extras too), so be creative. Hand made stuff is always fun.
Local histories are always good for setting and background. As a professional historian I am always eager to learn about new places and the legends and lore surrounding your hometown.
I'll look through some of the more recent pdfs and see what to do about some of them, though the Mysteries of Ireland stands out as I didn't manage to snag a copy.

Okay so from the pdfs/mongraphs these are one's I don't have: Any of the Halloween scenario collections are a good choice. I don't have any of them and I am surprised I didn't pick them up.

Dear Secret Shoggoth, I'm willing to receive anything from you, although stuff related at least veguely to the Mythos is preferred. :)

Dear Shoggie,
I´ve been a good secret cultist. I have a Swedish game ready for shipping. Would love the Masks companion for Cthulhumas.... Nah, just goofing. Some bedside reading would do nicely.

I'm in and it's my first time.

I'm happy to receive pretty much anything, but here are some hints:

  • I definitely prefer dead-tree. Not easy on the shipping though ;)
  • As other posters have suggested, local legends and handmade stuff is fantastic.
  • I have most of the Call of Cthulhu 90s/modern books, but pretty much anything classic era is fair game.
  • Fiction is always welcome. Without listing all of my books, modern anthologies are probably the best bet. I've already got all the Delta Green books, Express Diaries, Black Wings and all of Lovecraft.
  • I have all of the HPLHS radio plays except the new one, "Call of Cthulhu".
  • Non-Lovecraft stuff is also fine, especially other RPG books.

Cheers

Strange how Jon and I seem to have the same needs and compulsions - I love to read as well so a dead tree book would also be appreciated.

Take Care

I'm in again this year, I will surely be delighted with whatever I receive.
But here is my Amazon Wishlist to give whomever gets my name out of the hat some clues as to my taste (or lack thereof).

PS. Chainmail dicebags make an excellent gift PM me for details ;)

I am also taking part for the first time.

I am fairly new to CoC and have recently joined a RL gaming group who are beginning an expedition to the Miskatonic Mountains in Antarctica, and you might have heard me playing online with the Skype of Cthulhu group.

The only dead tree edition of any Lovecraftian work I own is the "Necronomicon: The Best Weird Tales of H.P. Lovecraft" which was my introduction to Lovecraft and prompted my initial delvings into the mythos.

Edit : Oh I lie, as I also have a copy of the Express Diaries!

Its my first time trying but this is an absolutely wonderful idea! What better way to get in the Christmas spirit then with my fellow cultists?

To my secret Shoggie, I'm a long time Lovecraft fan and Keeper, but pretty new around this forum, I love mythos books, props and baubles, rpg aids, movies, etc. I'm not too picky. ^^ I do already have the first four Dark Adventure radio dramas and the Whisperer in the Darkness film, but the HPLHS site always has something I drool over.

This is my amazon wishlist to give you some ideas,
http://www.amazon.co...wl_search_bin_1
But don't feel limited by the list, during the holidays, the unexpected gift is always the best one. Surprise me!
