If you don't need the pdf, you can get it for about $20 cheaper on Amazon (even more if you are willing to get one with a banged-up box).

No reprints

No reprint is correct.

but perhaps another edition in the future (2037)?

We intend to produce a new edition of Horror on the Orient Express, in due course (it will be closer to two years than twenty years), but it will have new art, and different layout and presentation.

If you want the current boxed version, best not to delay. In the <24 hours since the announcement almost 50% of our remaining stocks have been sold.

FYI, demand for Horror on the Orient Express has been much, much higher than we anticipated: every copy we had left in our US warehouse has been bought up in just over two days.

We have temporarily suspended sales of HotOE on our website until we reconfigure the product page to indicate we only have copies left in the UK. But based on how quickly the US copies sold, it's probable we'll sell out before long once back up again.

(Note, we also have nine copies in the consignment going to Pax Unplugged for sale at our booth there next weekend).

Now facing an anxious wait to see if my copy from Booktopia, which they claim is 'on order from supplier' will actually arrive :(

Grabbed a used copy in great condition for $80. Man. I don't think all that stuff ACTUALLY fits in that box, y'all.  <_<

FYI, all copies brought to PAX Unplugged were sold. We are now essentially out-of-stock of HotOE in the US and Australia. The remaining copies in our UK warehouse will go back on sale soon.

I was able to get a copy off of amazon, with a box that was just a little banged up for $45.00 several months ago.. The box is so full it is no wonder the box was split a little.. but it was still shrink wrapped. I consider myself very lucky

Yeah, for as great as it all looks I think there was some lack of measuring when it came to the sizing of the box versus its contents. It makes the OCD part of me twitch.

I may be naive but surely a reprint of the most recent edition would be cheaper than redoing the art, layout and presentation.

Especially when its a sellout.

Just saying.

I believe boxed sets are expensive to produce (especially considering the size and number of components in this one), and likely the final HotOE 2e copies are at the end of a long sales tail.

Quite possibly it's more profitable therefore to do another edition in Chaosium's new house style (full colour hardcover [multi-volume slipcased set???]) which would be a lot cheaper to publish and generate new buzz with a new presentation format (plus a chance for some additional editing and revision if wanted).

The above is pure guesswork though.

The big advantage to a boxed set in my mind, is that the handouts and extras are so much more accessible -- without cannibalizing one of the core books.  If they can do a "handouts" booklet that's easy to take apart and still provides the quality of the materials in the most recent boxed set, then they will have hit a home run (especially if it includes a solid version of the statue).  If it's like MoN (the most recent one -- the original boxed set was the bomb), then you either HAVE to have the PDF in order to print copies of the handouts, or you have to mutilate the book to get them.

(One of the better solutions in this regard (again, in my opinion) was the separate book for all the handouts for Beyond the Mountains of Madness when they issued it in book form...)

A number of people wanted printed handouts for Pulp Cthulhu: The Two-Headed Serpent - Chaosium simply pointed people to the handouts PDF - so I wouldn’t be surprised if that continues to be their way forward, rather than additional specialist printing. Perhaps it might be different for HotOE which has been one of the flagship products. I think how it’s handled with the upcoming Masks re-release will likely be a good indicator.

I imagine you're right.  At the end of the day, it's got to show a profit, and if the special printing is eating the profit margin, it'll stay a PDF...  ;-)

Still, we can hope!

GET OUT OF TOWN.

A slipcase, two volume, HotOE would be amazing. Just go ahead and expect my money to be thrown at you.
