Rewrites And Reprints - Post Your Opinion And Vote!

Chaosium are soon to reprint the classic 'Shadows Of Yog Sothoth' campaign and produce a hardcover 'Dreamlands' campaign book. Sadly it looks as if SOYS won't be a major rewrite and therefore may only be of use to those who don't already have the original.

Given that classic second-hand material sold on eBay often costs more than the original face value, rewrites and reprints could be a good idea for Chaosium.

It would also be a great opportunity to rework some of the material and bring it up to the standard of the best of the CoC supplements.

So, if Chaosium (or Pagan) were planning to do a proper rewrite and reprint of classic scenario material, which would you actually purchase?

Which, in your opinion(s) are the most worthy of reprinting?

I'll add as many of the relevant OOP items to the poll as possible (discounting SOYS and Dreamlands) and keep it open for 28 days. Not so sure that 'Masks Of Nyarlathotep' or 'Trail Of Tsathogghua' need reworkings TBH. Comments would be useful too.
    Cheers.

    Peter.

I voted for Walker in the Waste mainly because ... well, it's the only one I don't already have (whistles innocently and looks at ceiling).

This poll may not be too lopsided, for I assume, in my ignorance, that most people will be like me, and vote for what they don't currently have.

What is most worthy of reprinting? Delta Green, followed by Gaslight and the Golden Dawn sourcebook (IMHO).

Walkers in the Wastes (because I sold mine for £50 to buy second hand Chaosium pieces) - And because its very very good. Or the Asylum (as I don't have this) and its all I am missing from the chaosium range.... oh hang on Spawn of Azathoth as well......

I don't see much point in reprinting

Day of the Beast (its on its third title)
    Mask of Nyarthotep (3rd Printing)
SOYS unless rewritten somewhat (hint GMs Start in Scotland and work in the others to that)
Dreamlands (How many times are they going to release this.. its going to overtake the rulebook soon)

However I'd like to see a player bind up (companions 1 and 2, plus other useful books, like Modern Players guide) and a gm guide (Keeper 1 and 2 plus creature companion slimmed down to exclude the crappier monsters like the fractals)....

This poll made it very clear to me that PHPNuke is in need of a "Check all that apply" kind of poll. Paul, any idea if that's something that's feasible to do?

I would definitely buy several of the items on that list, yet I could only select one. This is further skewed by the fact that I have bought several of them on ebay or from other online sources, and yet I would buy new or reworked versions of some of them anyway!

It was almost impossible for me to choose, but I finally selected Great Old Ones. I actually acquired a copy from Ebay recently, but I had been unsuccessfully seeking it for almost a year! I've had the same problem with Delta Green, Petersen's Guide to the Cthulhu Monsters, Cthulhu Classics, and the Cairo sourcebook. Everything else I wanted I acquired pretty easily, although some were pretty damned expensive (Horror on the Orient Express, ouch).

I had other poll options in initially but the damn PHP will only allow 10 options in the poll.

IIRC from Strange Aeons the official word is that there is absolutely zero chance of the Field Guides ever being reprinted due to artistic copyright issues.
    Cheers.

Definetly need to check more than one for this, but I checked Gaslight bc I haven't been able to get my hands on it yet.

Of course, Mansions of Madness should be on there too.

I voted for 'Orient Express', not because I helped write it, but because I think the game is is need of sustained, coherent campaigns rather than individual scenarios. As much as I like the Lovecraft Country scenarios and would love to see them have a new lease of life, I believe that a detailed, broad-ranging campaign is more important - especially one that avoids the repetitious nature of 'Masks'. I would have voted for 'Fungi From Yuggoth' but it's already been reprinted three times...

Unfortunately not in the current version of the forums, but it's certainly something we could look into.

This is just a configuration issue and we've now increased the limit to 15 options. Normally 10 is enough as more than that tends to become unwieldy and dilute the poll. However in this case I can see good reason. So you can add more if you wish Peter!

My vote went for the oft rumoured Cthulhu by Gaslight 3rd edition. Spawn of Azathoth is a planned re-release by Chaosium, and I'm rather looking forward to this site's namesake release Shadows of Yog-Sothoth as I know Lynn has put a lot of effort into editing the new edition.

So, there's supposed to be a reprint for Spawn of Azathoth, finally? Rewritten at all, or just finally putting it between two covers?

Because of that, I voted for my other favorite campaign, Horror on the Orient Express. A solid reworking would be wonderful.

(How they could rerelease SoY without updating it is beyond me.)

Nah, if I was going to vote for something just because I'd helped write it I probably would have gone for 'The Stars Are Right!' or the Lovecraft Country stuff, which I think is better work... (he says modestly!)

I wish I could have voted for more than one being there are quite a few I do not currently have. If they were spread apart by a month there are about 6 of them I would buy.

    GOO

Even though I've squeezed out all the juicy goodness out of my battered old copy, I really think that no suppliment better helps Keepers run CoC than the utterly marvellous exemplar of "The Great Old Ones".

Even if everyone here owns a copy, it's a timeless classic that would help future generations play, think and be scared... Especially if it was revised anew by the old gang...

I'd buy it all over again in a New York minute, just to leave copies lying around for people to stumble across and get interested in our whole crazy universe...
