    Shops in England

    Hello

I will be in England and Ireland soon to see what the game world looks like in the UK. I am sure this has come up before, I know it has for Ireland, but what about the game stores in London? Are they worth visiting? Any other options that a servitor of the Black Man might enjoy?

    Thanks

    Hi

Orc's Nest over in Seven Dials, by Tottenham Court Road/Shaftsbury Avenue is quite good.
They also have a website so you can get an idea of what they have in stock before you go.......

Out of curiousity its Wednesday, and it's 5:56pm !!!

Better than Orcs' Nest, or at least less surly, are Playing Games in Museum St (opposite the British Museum) and Leisure Games in Ballards Lane, Finchley (about 40 minutes out of central London on the Northern Line).

Forbidden Planet in Shaftesbury Ave also have a good selection of games and loads of other stuff, comics, books etc.

Orcs' Nest is more on Cambridge Circus really, where Charing Cross Rd meets Shaftesbury Ave.

I will second that - I really cannot believe how they stay in business Playing Games have been (to me anyway) really friendly.

Orcs Nest also have everything shrinkwrapped, whereas Playin' Games don't. Nuff said.

If you find yourself in Canterbury, call in at Westgate Games in Palace Street, which was my FLGS for many years.

hmmm from memory the Fantasy Centre (a book shop in the Holloway road in London... at No 157) used to have the 'odd' COC volume, as well as the usually 'damned exspensive' and rather spankworthy volumes of HPL and related Arkham House volumes.

Their website lists the occasional RPG related item, but it isn't a comprehensive site.

The Orc's Nest, Playin' Games and Forbidden Planet are all within about 10 minutes walk of each other, so it's quite easy to compare and contrast. (The RPG section of Playin' Games is down in the basement and can get quite cramped).

But if you have the time, go to Leisure Games...

Thanks folks. Looks like things are pretty active indeed. A sharp contrast to many places I have been.

I have expanded things a bit:

I am going to try to make various game Cons along the way.

Does anyone just hate any of the following?

    Conflageration, Feb 24-25, Glascow, Scotland
    K2, Mar 2-5, Killarney, Ireland
    Itzacon, Mar 9-11, Galway, Ireland

    Thanks

Playin' Games used to be my local games shop. Always friendly. They're the ones who came up with the name "Paul of Cthulhu"!

Yes, I hope to be at the Concrete Cow, smashed in before a show in Dublin.

I plan to be there although plans change. I am in Barcelona now. I would love to draw my dagger against Great Cthulhu.

I made it to London but missed the Concrete Cow. You guys have nothing to worry about in terms of game stores, although Descartes in Paris has you beat... Albiet in French
