Delta Green- What other books do I need?

    Hey everyone,

Do I need anything other books (like Cthulhu Now, Stars are Right, etc) to start a DG campaign? ARe the rules for weapons in the rulebook enough?

What other books would you recommend to fill out or help a keeper running DG?

    thanks,

    Alex

I guess the real question is more what do you want more then what do you need. The original DG book has been running around 60-100$ on ebay Countdown has been running aroung 30-40. Both are great books, but imagination works too. I would sugest getting a copy of of Dark Thearters which is still available on chaosium for under 20$ Alien Inteligence has been poping up on ebay for under 40$ lately, and is a great read.

If you really want cool DG stuff the eyes only Books will set you back a bunch but have a bunch of info that didn't make it into the original 2 Sourcebooks.

I do recommend "The Stars are Right", the adventures in it are perfect for Delta Green. And one of them makes a perfect lead in to the adventures in the main book. (Once you figure a way around a small problem)

Bruce Ballon's Unseen Masters (modern New York & environs) has conversion notes for its use with Delta Green. It's also excellent and an award winner to boot.

    It's "Music of the Spheres"

Music of the Spheres and "The New Age" Spoilers
Both deal with Mi-go and Ghroth, but in the former scenario, just having Ghroth's signal being picked up by a radio station causes mass insanity in the town, and the Mi-Go are trying to stop the signal from being picked up. But in "The New Age" Ghroth is brought into the solar system with no real effect... No Great Old Ones awakening, no mass insanity, and the Mi-Go are the ones who bring him into the Solar System.
Now, given that the Mi-Go are meant to be studying Humanity and mining earth, and are trying to do so before the Great Old Ones awake... bringing an entity who is meant to wake up Great Old Ones near to earth is kind of... well, shooting themselves in the foot. Hmm... I may not be making myself clear here...

Okay, Mi-Go study Humanity and Mine Earth. Seek to prevent/slow down Great Old Ones awakening.
Ghroth causes insanity on a mass scale, and wakes up Great Old Ones.
Why would the Mi-Go bring him to the Solar System?

(Personally I "fixed" it by switching the bad guys behind "The New Age" to the K-n'yani, who actually want to wake the GOOs)

    On a related note:

Last time I emailed Pagan, they confirmed that Delta Green was still slated for reprint. What's the newest dirt?

Cthulhu Now and/or the 1990s Handbook are useful for expanding weapons but not essential. If you have DG you're ready to go. If you don't buy the much cheaper Cthulhu Live: Delta Green and catch the d20 reprint later this year (hopefully). Countdown is nice to have and still in print, but only necessary if your game leaves the USA. DG fiction is always good to have. Ignore the fabled Eyes Only books until they are reprinted unless you've just won the lottery and have lots of spare cash.

For an extensive list of DG-suitable scenarios check out Jacob Busby's scenario guide at Delta-Green.com which lists the scenarios and the books you can find them in.

Now isn't that supposed to be dual stat, BRP and d20? That's what has for the last couple years, kept me from shelling out way too much loot to buy an older printing.

DG came out with four suppliments:

    DG: Countdown
    DG: Machinations of the Mi-Go
    DG: The Fate
    DG: Project Rainbow

"Countdown" and "Machinations" are really helpful with fleshing out the setting.

"The Fate" is full of the same obnoxious pretentiousness that I feel infiltrates the "World of Darkness" and "Unknown Armies" settings. It's not necessary, but others would disagree.

"Project Rainbow" is an excellent concept but can stand on it's own with or without DG.

There's also a Delta Green Wiki, or so I hear.

There is at least one non-RPG DG book that I know of, "Alien Intelligences", and it's a collection of short stories that provide a better world view of how DG "works" than the rulebooks do.

The DGWiki (aka 'The Fairfield Project') can be found here.

It is important to note that the various DG chapbooks mentioned above (Machination of the Migo, the Fate, and Project Rainbow) are rare and hard to find (aka expensive).

Other DG material can be found in old issues of the Unspeakable Oath (#16/17 has a scenario, 'See No Evil') and Polyhedron (#155 "PX Poker Night"). Dennis Detwiller also has posted a new DG scenario to his website ("Music from a Darkened Room", link).

Adam Scott Glancy also has a short DG column in Worlds of Cthulhu.

The Black Seal is a great resource for 'modern horror gaming' and is full of DG goodness.

There are a number of modern scenarios that can be easily used in a DG game as well- books like "The Stars are Right!" are a good place to look (see also AdamAstronbury's posts/journal entries on the site for write-ups).

There was also a contest recently on the Delta Green mailing list for short (under 5k words) scenarios (link. (Full disclosure, I wrote one. I also wrote a DG related monograph for Chaosium... (here) but it is set in the USSR in the 1930s, so it wouldn't be of much use.)

I believe so. I was just using a badly chosen shorthand.

These threads always seem to come up from time to time ; it might be worth having a 'Resources' sticky thread, at the top of the 'Modern' forum in which we could provide a list of everything that's 'out there' for Delta Green and 'Cthulhu Now' with perhaps a short description of what each item covers.....

Anybody else think this is a good idea ? We seem to be half way there already with the contents of this thread...

Sounds like a good idea for content for the CthulhuWiki.
