Exclamation Artists wanted! (Paid work possibly leading to regular work)

    Hi everyone.

    We're hiring!

I'm in need of artists who can draw/paint floorplans in 28mm scale and/or draw npc character images. I'm hoping to start a series of floorplan booklets for sale on drivethrurpg as a PDF and on our upcoming webite as A1 gloss prints.
Each booklet will contain roughly 28pages with maps, object such as tables and lamps, etc and also a small scenario relevant to the map, scenario ideas and seeds, and notes.

As the artist you will be responsible for 4-6 US letter sized maps (often combining one image) and 2 pages of objects. The writing and layout will be done by others. If successful, we'd like to use you as the regular artist for further products.
This is a paying gig to be paid upon completion via Paypal or BACS (BACS in the UK only).

The npc character images will be 3"x4" in black and white and ill number around 20. It is for a modern horror scenario book.

    Your skills
You will have experience in providing maps/plans/illustrations to clients and a provable completion rate.
Your medium will be in any reasonable art software program (Photoshop, Illustrator, etc) or in a physical medium (paint, ink) that can be scanned and sent electronically.
Your skill will be of a good standard. Amateurs are welcome to apply providing they have the skill. I am favourable towards realistic looking textures and good lighting effects.
You will be contactable with message turnover not exceeding one day. There's nothing more worrying to a publisher than freelancer silence.

If you are interested, please send the information below to myself via PM here on YSDC, on Facebook or G+, or (preferably) via e-mail to steffworthington@hotmail.com with the message line reading 'FLOORPLAN COMMISSION' or 'CHARACTER COMMISSION'

    Info needed (essential):

Your rate per letter sized colour floorplan OR per portrait
Your rate per project (6 full page images + 2 full page of 'object')
Your turnaround time for the project
    Your full name
    link to your online work
    link to previous commissions.

I'm afraid I don't respond to question regarding 'my budget' and prefer to pay, or decline, what the artist think their work is worth.

Feel free to ask me any other question via the same method.
I hope to hear from you soon!

    Hi Steff,

Have you Tried Earl Geier? He's done maps and character portaits for Chaosium and a load of other RPG companies. He's currently doing something for me, and he's an all-round decent guy to deal with.

His contact details are on the Cthulhu Wiki page: http://www.yog-sothoth.com/wiki/index.php/Earl_Geier

For all interested parties, these images will be for a dark horror rpb book. Cartoon image, Manga-esque, and unrealistic face artists need not apply.

I'd thought of Earl and while it is the kind of image I'm after, thought a new and fresh approach would suit our books. Mr Geier is almost Mr Chaosium when it come to sketches, such is his impact on Cthulhu!

    Steff-

We spent a bunch of time on Deviant Art and searched for "Cthulhu," looking for people who captured the look we were going for. Since they're mostly artists looking for work, they're usually happy to hear from a prospective employer. Best of luck!

Have you thought about Ralf Schemman? He freelances for ProFantasy and does incredible work with CC3.

Well, we've found our sketch artist! He's pretty damn good and I'm looking forward to putting him to work. More on this in time!

I am going to forward this to one of my players, who has some coursework in mapping. He may be able to help. I unfortunately am like Mark Twain--I once tried to draw a regular pension but the effort proved too difficult and beyond my talents so I gave it up.

I mean, can you post some examples of the sort of floorplans you're looking to do? Are you focusing on modularity or full layouts of whole buildings? Do you want room filled with incidental details, like the GW haunted house plans, or leave room for groups to draw in their own information?

Well, I don't have any examples of my own to post and I'd rather not post other people's art as I might as well hire them.
We're looking for basic rooms not too different from the GW Haunted House plans (only empty of furniture). Our aim is to release a single plan as a pdf cut into sections or fully printed on A1 paper from our website. There would also be (as part of the booklet) scenario seeds, a small statless adventure, and a couple of pages of furniture to print and cut out. The rooms would already have carpets or rugs and the odd blood stain. We're not doing modular 'rooms and corridor' sections at the moment.
