I hear it's a big book (though haven't seen a copy yet, myself).

Well, I've only read the early reviews, but as you say, a big book, all rules, non specific setting.
I still have a soft spot for the old second edition, so sans lottery win, probably won't be getting it.

The production quality of the dead tree version is very high. The content is much improved over the Mongoose RQII book which has a lot of similarities (both written by the same authors) but is more developed. A complete lack of reference to Glorantha makes it a great product for a homebrew world game. Design Mechanism are bringing out Mythic Britain, Mythic Greece and Mythic Byzantium as settings over the next 2-3 years.

From what I've heard from the authors it's a book that contain everything (458 pages). They don't want to create/make you buy a bunch rules supplements. They plan on working on settings and modules.

It is quite a different approach than Mongoose's Legend which is a core PDF at 1$ and a bunch of add-ons to buy once you're hooked.

[FONT=Georgia]I glanced at a copy at Continuum. Big and heavy, and comprehensive.
Given that I just bought nice, if second hand, copies of Pavis & Big Rubble and Griffin Mountain, I think that I would like to get hold of a copy at some point./FONT]

I have never played Runequest but from what I know of it it looks interesting. This edition might be a good starting point or maybe I should go with OpenQuest for something lighter.
There is also Chaosium's upcoming Magic World which is the de-Moorcockification of Elric! which sounds intriguing (another game I've never played but heard great things about).
