Call of Cthulhu Character Creator for iPad

    Hi guys,

This is my first post. I'm an old-timer who used to play 2nd ed. many years ago and I'm now back for some 6th ed. and Delta Green. A friend of mine told me this site is awesome, so that's why I'm here.

Anyway, I decided to make a character creator iPad app for my group and I'm curious on the community's opinion if it is worth putting it on the app store for the public or if there are enough tools like this out there already to make people satisfied (including web apps).

Just a beta version, but this is what it looks like. You can make rolls, adjust stats and place skill points.

If I put it on app store it would be free and without ads.

    Cheers!

    Looks Great!

I'd love if it also had some sort of inventory & Background page as well, perhaps even a notes page so it would eliminate the use of paper altogether for anyone using it.

One thing though, the skills that are in gray are somewhat hard to read which is something that could be adjusted I suppose.

I would love to see this app on the app store!

    Very good idea!
I think that most apps in the Store are for d20 system, so having one for CoC would be awesome!
It would be nice to be able to upload a character picture.

And it's NOT a bad thing to get payed for your work
after all you had to pay apple for the store account.

    Cheers and good luck!
I wish to see more about this app!

I'd certainly be interested in seeing that app appear (as would, I suspect, at least two other players in my group).

All it'd need would be some basic character info (the stuff at the top of the character sheet - name, age, etc.), the extra pages knas mentioned, Hit Point, Sanity and Magic Point trackers and the ability to put a check next to a skill and there'd be little need for a paper character sheet.

Perhaps the trackers and the extra character info replace the sliders once a character's been created and saved?

Like andres-montanez I wouldn't be averse to paying for such an app (the tricky bit would be to find the right price, of course).
Why not visit (and, for the love of Dagon, comment on) my SOYS campaign journal: Nightmares in Norfolk - they're actually exploring the Lodge now and we've only been playing for a year!

Agreed. I'd be all over that, whether free or for a small fee.

    I'd be interested too.

If you do end up releasing it for free, would you also consider releasing the source code? I was working on something similar (but not nearly so polished), but had to take a break when work got busy and would love to see the code behind the scenes and possible offer any help/enhancements I can.

    Thanks everyone for your input.

To sum it up, what many of you would like to have is in fact a digital character sheet. Maybe I should take the time to implement that before releasing this thing.

    Yep.

Would you be able to handle the sanity loss?

I've been waiting for exactly this ! A great job sir!

My wish list would include (but hey, its cool already - it's no deal breaker!):

    Ability to add and edit:
    background info
    personal inventory
monsters encountered (and San lost to each!)
a personal dairy - allow characters to write up their 'dairy' of the scenarios - perhaps able to link this to a blog?
    an image - character portrait

Welcome to the forums. And yes, we are dying to get our hands on a app like this. We need one. Thanks for getting this done.

Maybe I should talk to Chaosium before using too much of their content? I don't know how much is too much.

Judging from what Byakhee (now @ http://www.jcfiala.net/content/byakh...cter-generator), I think you can do quite a bit so long as you don't use their images/text without permission.

The monster encounters might be borderline if you included stats from the rulebook; but if you leave it up to the user to input them, it should be fine.

I spent a while working with some friends on a Warhammer army builder and got a bit of experience in how far is too far with copyrights and such. We only had 1 problem where Games Workshop complained (we originally included the stats form the free reference sheets on GWs website, which ended up being a no-no).

EyeOfTheDuck, I was pretty serious about offering help if you want to host the project as open source (like @ Sourceforge, GoogleCode, Github, etc...). I'd be more than happy to donate some time to something that might be of great benefit to the community. You could still charge for it as there are several open source apps in the app store that are not free (since compiling and loading an app is not something the average user can do on an iPad like they can on a PC).

Sounds exciting. I would like to have a way to export into a nicely formated PDF or similar for printing. Love my iPad, but still big on the Ps in PnP.

    Thanks!

A PC version would also be handy. Byakhee is alright, but it really is better at creating a character sheet for print than keeping a running character sheet during play.

Real nice looking sheets, would be a sound app.

    Thanks!
The static in my mind, leaves me hollow and unkind.
