Thread: Players' Directory Issues

  1. #16
I didn't actually E-Mail these guys, as I seem to recall reading that message a few years back. I think I accessed it from a players map somewhere else, wgen I was searching for gamers. Due to the nature of the message, how it was written, and being very local I walked in the pub. None of the staff had actually heard of them, so I assumed it was out of date even back then. I don't expect replies, but did send myself an E-Mail via the map, and never received it.

I have the same issue that you had originally mentioned. I'm using IE9, and the Players' Directory just shows a blank screen every time. Google Maps does work for me, though.

Unfortunately haven't been able to reproduce this issue in my copy of IE9. It's making it a little hard to track down the issue. If anyone else has similar reports and has the IE9 dev tools available to see if there's anything on the console, that'd be useful.

    I heard back from Anwesh:

I believe that the group is now officially disbanded, although there are still privately run games in Portsmouth. The web site www.ukroleplayers.com has a section for Portsmouth, where you may be able to contact local players.
    So I've removed that record.

Thanks for that, it could be that a lot of the contacts are out of date. Perhaps if some sort of block standard E-Mail went out, every three years, that by clicking on it, it auto kept or deleted the pin. That way the map would be up to date with little work? Anyway, appreciate your efforts. The Portsmouth UK Roleplayers disbanded a few months back, but I'll see if i can dig up any bodies at the Conception convention this year.

As pins are linked to YSDC logins, could something be done to only show pins associated with an account that's been logged in at some point in the preceding 6 or 12 months? It wouldn't have to run every time the map's loaded, just once a month or so to hide (possibly) obsolete pins.
Why not visit (and, for the love of Dagon, comment on) my SOYS campaign journal: Nightmares in Norfolk - they're actually exploring the Lodge now and we've only been playing for a year!

Pins have only recently been tied in to YSDC logins, before the update it was independent access; hence there may be people listed in the directory that are not members of YSDC, so that wouldn't work.

Your best bet is simply to email possible candidates and if you get a reply, great!

I bring up the spiffy new map in Firefox (with pop-ups allowed to ysdc), a white box appears saying I have an old account that can be migrated but neither of the secret Gnash Word "go buttons" provokes any sort of activity. Not even a "clicked" graphic to show that anything I do is being so much as sniffed at.
Look, why don't we just chant it? I mean, how bad could it be, lads? Lads? Lads? Where did everbody go?

I'm probably being exceedingly dense here, yes I know - yet again, but having moved from Sittingbourne in Kent up to South Shields, Tyne & Wear; I tried to move my marker (click and drag ... as I thought it was meant to be), on the map to no avail. Any help appreciated,

    Norm

I suspect that you could click on your icon (the green one) enter the new details and it will relocate to the new postcode location.

If not then there is a button at the bottom of the data entry popup marked "Place pin manually" which will allow you to move the pin to your new location.

That did the trick, though it took two attempts. Thank you.

okay, I'm on a completely different computer now and I'm still getting no reaction from the "migrate" function. Is there an alternative to allow me to manually put in my details? It's as though the script isn't doing anything at all. Yes, javascript is enable in the browser.

As you were. I was entering the wrong password - the javascript alert responding to tell me so is badly formed (too many single quotes) and throws a silent error.

Now I can't get the pin to stay put. I pin myself top the map, click save and it all goes away again.

Steve, Now you can get into your account go to the pane where your details are and click on the move manually button at the bottom. Trying moving it that way. It might take a couple of tries according to Cearlan above.

Alternatively I guess you could at a pinch delete and re-enter your details.

How? There doesn't appear to be a "delete my player directory info" button. I don't want to delete the entire account just to get this piece of fluff working.

It's annoying because I'm trying to reconvene a group in Plainview LI to start Masks of Nyarlathotep but if no-one knows I'm there how can they find me? I'd almost rather go back to the table we used to have. I just placed the pin again (and why does it start in the middle of England - it knows from my details I'm in New York for Azathoth's sake and it is a major pain to resize the map and move it and resize it without accidentally clicking on someone else's pin and screwing up the entire session) and it stayed for about a minute and a half, then "poof!" gone to wherever it goes when it isn't working properly.

    Bah.
