Thread: Playing a cat...?!?

    Playing a cat...?!?

I mean they have average INT, superior POW and certainly arent incapable of spells/stalking/reading... strength might be lacking and forget about payckhecks or guns. Bu are also beneath notice. Perhaps cats dont even go insane?
All that is required is that others speak cat..

I haven't read it through in any detail, but there's an article in the (English language) Worlds of Cthulhu, Issue 4 which covers exactly this topic. This CthulhuWiki page has a little bit of information, but others here on the forum likely know more.

Cathulhu is a great game, I have run it several times, a real good game plenty of scope.
The static in my mind, leaves me hollow and unkind.

Does this allow you to mew proudly that you are a real Bast-ard?

Suddenly, Jones the cat from the film Alien makes much more sense... One of the last survivors of the Nostromo mission to LV-426, I'm certain he developed a Sense Infestation skill by the end of that movie!

Maybe he even compiled a Cat diary of the experience that others could decipher (1/1d3 SAN) that confers +5% Cthulhu Mythos and the Command Human spell. Jones obviously had Ripley under his thrall to make her come back for him at the end, there. Maybe Contact Bast?

Sounds like the role playing challenge of a lifetime! I'd both play, and allow in my games, Cat PCs!

Had a look at the article. Doesent cover man-kitty integrated teams tho. But a interesting cat-perspective.
Guess trickmeister is either compulsory or should be intergrated as such.

Meanwhile a professor/dileetantte, lady of the manor, the ex-militaary now butler/driver/bodyguard and "sneak" along with sneaks mate "loki", can go with claw, purse, dynamite, science and purrs at the mythos! The cultists will never know what hit them

That would be an interesting turn of events for the players. I can only imagine the role-play that would go along with it.

I'd be more inclined to use cats as an negotiable third party. Sure, they'll tip you off when the ghoul snoops around, but are you willing to pay for their services with babies' breath?

I'd forgotten that Ripley had come back for the cat.

And yeah, it's very in keeping with Lovecraft's, erm, loves to play a cat. I wonder what sort of campaigns you could do with it?

I would think that Mouseguard would be a better game for playing a cat gives full reign to the possibilities.

Let each player have both a Cat and Human PC, perhaps with a Dog thrown in for good measure, Arkham Horror has a man & dog combination........

    Never heard of Mousegard........
Mmmm, currently enjoying the calorific potential of Air and Sunlight !

This reminds me of an old AD&D campaign I was part of. Everyone had a Magic-User to play, plus that wizard's entourage. Bodyguards mostly, but there were servants, a paladin (who was more a parole officer to his mage-charge), siblings, union representative (not kidding) and other groupies.

When the story turned away from the magi, everyone had something interesting to play.

Given cats' predisposition to avoiding conflicts, I could envision a Call of Cthulhu game pretty quickly weeding out the Humans and leaving a clowder of feline investigators to stop the Big Bads with naught but tooth and claw, wits and the Command Human spell. (Material component of baby's breath, for sure...) How many times must the cats have already saved their preferred servants (us) from horrors beyond the veil?

Imagine the cat-community of Yorkshire, hanging about Auntie Betty's waiting to send agents of the Glaring into the fray should their man-lackeys fail.

Thank you, Varjag, for starting this thread! Quite inspiring...
