Red face Masks of Nyarlathotep Companion - Update 29 Apr 2012

I turned in the first pass of the MoNC finished layout this afternoon.

It currently stands at 560 pages, and is still missing the handouts appendix and index. It took an hour to distil a low resolution PDF. The finished book will be closer to 600 pages.

In the next few weeks the book will be going through several iterations as we proof-read, error-trap, track down a missing map, find artwork to fill blank spots, tweak the layout, and a buff and polish.

I'm posting this because I know you chaps have lots and lots of questions about MoNC, but please give us a month or so to finish this mammoth beast before bombarding us with them. We will be very happy to talk when we have the finished book in hand and can give definite answers to your queries.

I'm sure Bret will be along shortly to give you all a commander's overview.

Do you need extra hands to proof-read? At 590 pages it sounds like you might.

Thank you for your update. Having seen some of the chapters I believe this Monograph will set new standards and will be something for which all who helped in its creation can be suitably proud.

For me, the most important question is 'When will it be available?' Within a year, by years end? I await Bret's thoughts with interest.

I haven't been following especially so forgive the ignorance but how is this being released? As an official monograph? Or as a web PDF thing?

I was extraordinarily happy to get the news this afternoon that the layout was done (or at least done-ish). We can now talk about getting this book into print.

    Expect more news soon.

For me, the question is, "Will this be at all affordable?" *IF* it is released as a monograph, my estimates from about a year ago (the last time we heard about the page count - 430 at that time) need revising. Probably in the $70-80+ range at 600 pages, assuming price per page doesn't get discounted significantly above a certain point.

600 pages raises a question of how it will be published. Will it be one book or many books? My experience with large paperbacks is that the spines degrade quickly with use. I suspect that the majority of people who have an opinion on cost may prefer the cheaper option. I though, would like to see the companion in hardcover with a stitched spine with multiple bookmarks; Something hefty that I can use to brain cultists.

The companion is no mere monograph it is a tome of wisdom, a book for the ages, let us treat it as such.

I'm with you on the hardcover stitched spine, multiple bookmarks option jorune.

In an ideal world a format exactly the same as the recent MoN hardback would be great......... please. This is a land mark book, of significant importance to the Call of Cthulhu RPG.

A single pdf option would be ideal for me, as to be quicker to get hold off and start running the campaign, it's been on hold for some time. I will buy the physical version at a later date.

I would prefer to buy a real book. I do not mind a $100 for a quality product. I think that is a reasonable price, but I would prefer to have it signed at that price, maybe even numbered as well. I know it takes extra time but it is the extra attention getter that makes the buyer feel like they have gotten something really special.
