    Rock n Roll scenario pitch

A pitch came to me the other night:

"Five has been rock stars gets one last shot at stardom as their once world famous band all of a sudden seems to be in style again. As they tries to get into their old stage costumes and prepare for one last tour - questions arise: Is there something mysterious behind this sudden popularity? How is that dollar-wielding Record Company Manager connected to that wierd cult? And why has the bands manager disappeared?"

Any thoughts or ideas spring to mind? I have no idea what so ever if this can be made into a scenario... Probably not

Sounds like a gig is upcoming at Club Apocalypse ! The revived popularity of the five take them to the lower levels of Manhattan. This could be a good way into a cult spree in New York. Just thinking it might work.

Nyarlathotep has certain musical talents that ought not be overlooked.

Hehe. Nyarlathotep comes to mind, yes. Figures, He's into platform shoes, glitter costumes and distorted guitars!

Good idea! Was thinking more of huge arena gigs though. But it doesn't exclude a cult spree though

Something to do with the King in Yellow perhaps. Maybe the band has recorded a few new songs to stick on the end of a compilation LP they're putting out prior to their come back tour. These are co-written with their new manager (a mysterious Rick Rubin style figure who's "really helped us rediscover our sound"). One song has mythos elements in it. When played live in front of a suitably large crowd it taps into their mass POW and brings the topsy turvy world of Carcosa to the stadium. Things get a bit strange. Large numbers of concert goers disappear never to be seen again, while others only vaguely recall what they experienced, a sizeable minority remember it as the best gig of their lives - "those guys had one hell of a stage show".
    Vot is point?

Might I suggest you read 'the courtyard' by alan moore before going any further with this idea, I think you might find it useful

Speaking as one who has experience in such things, if the band's manager were to suddenly disappear whilst the band was having their resurgence, most everything would pretty much grind to a halt.

I think it would make more sense that the band gets back together, minus one original member, who's nowhere to be found. His replacement is *not* behind it all, but it would make for a good red herring. In fact, it's the corporation that owns the majority of the radio stations in the country that's attempting to cast a spell via the band's music. The band, in fact, are just dupes.

Well, except maybe the singer. His lyrics have suddenly gotten a lot more obtuse...

I wrote a con scenario along those exact lines a few years ago (lead singer of a band disappears under mysterious circumstances after recording a brilliant but weird song; now they're getting back together). Drop me an email (mytholder@gmail) and I'll fire you a copy.

Wasn't there a scenario just like that in Cthulhu Now? God's Lost Children or something? I think it was the name of the band.

It also reminds me of Jennifer's Body and the group Low Shoulder using a sacrifice to become popular.

Maybe the plan is for them to plant backwards lyrics that drives people mad and/or homicidal?
Or maybe you could tie this idea to the Dreamlands? People's souls and minds get sent there while something "else" gets to inhabit the body?

Initally, I was thinking the PC's as the band and them solving the mystery while also being the mystery. Or something like that. But you just gave me some great ideas :P

Maybe they are given the new, disturbed lyrics by their replacement "band manager" who turns out to be Nyarlathotep just trying to spread more chaos.

From memory The God's Lost Children scenario from Cthulhu Now that AnaWE mentions would work well with the PCs as the band.

Why has their new manager arranged such a strange tour itinerary? Who are the strange types hanging around the band, seemingly with said manager's blessing? Since when did the band need an on-stage dancer? etc.

Maybe these new figures start to slowly become more and more prominent in the band's performances and the PCs notice they are being pushed more and more into the background.
