Cthulhu Australis, a new blog and podcast coming

    http://cthulhuaustralis.wordpress.com/

I have started a new site for CoC focusing on Australia in the 1920's and mythic, mythos related idea's.

Please drop by and ask questions and leave comments. I am slowly working on developing two podcasts for it, one will be a gaming group playing CoC of course. The others will be focused on Australia in the 1920's.

Very nice! All the best on your endeavors - I'm looking forward to your 'casts.

Australia is an under-used resource for gaming, IMHO. With any luck, you'll help remedy that.

Looking forward to seeing more Australian content for Call of Cthulhu -- while Morrison & Love's excellent Terror Australis was a great resource for its time, there is a serious need for more detailed material for the Australian setting and its many and varied horrors. Australia in the 1920s is a pretty unique and appealing setting -- it still has a strong flavour of the British colonies, but there's also very much a frontier (almost wild-west) feel particularly outside the big cities. Plus ... if you look at a period atlas, you'll notice that there are massive tracts of the 1920s Australian map that are just blank: no European had ever survived a trip into those wild places. Lots of very fertile material ...

Another setting that might also be quite interesting is "Australia by Gaslight" ...

Remember that during the Classic period Papua and New Guinea, and many pacific islands, were administered by Australia. And there's New Zealand too.

Really? That'd be cool ... any further information available? It wasn't included in Chaosium's recent press release on upcoming "2012" books, but this would be a very pleasant surprise indeed.

Very cool, do we know a time line?

Sorry about the podcast not starting yet. I had a tooth extracted and I am awaiting healing.

Whoa...trippy. This comes at a time where I have a folder of disorganised notes regarding the development of a sourcebook for Australia in the 1920's, including framework for 4 scenarios.

Not sure if 'Shadow Over Australia' or 'Shadow Over Down Under' is the better option.

Personally I would love to see more Aussie Cthulhu stuff. An Australian 1920s resource would be welcome, or an update of Terror Australis.
However I think a more interesting period of Australian history would be the the late Colonial Period of the 1800s, the setting of the Gold Rush era, corrupt Troopers, and Bushrangers - akin to the USA's 'Wild West' period, although different enough to warrant it's own genre. The Outback would be more mysterious, and the hardships of daily life would only add to the horrors of the Cthulhu Mythos.
A good scenario title could be 'The Thing From Snowy River' heh heh. Seriously, Australia's Colonial Period really needs the Mythos treatment!

I think I might try to cover from the first fleet through to 1930

That would be a mammoth task, but it certainly would be a great resource.
You could cover First Fleet To Federation (Penal & Colonial eras), then maybe Federation to the Fifties - after this Australia is more or less similar to the UK or the USA, well certainly not different enough to warrant attention. Pre-1950s Australia is still pretty raw at times, and the Outback stuff can be just as mysterious.

Best wishes with your endeavour (excuse the pun heh heh), no seriously, I would be very happy seeing what you come up with

I'm looking forward to this. Terror Australis is, to my mind, one of the very best COC supplements, and has led me to the assumption that anything set in Australia will be awesome
