Photoshop Help Needed for Gaslight Prop

I've been busy creating a few online props for a Gaslight version of 'The Haunting' that I'm hoping to run PBP on very YSDC soon.

Not having previous experience of Photoshop it's certainly been a learning experience, but enjoyable nonetheless. However, I've created a newspaper clipping and can't seem to get rid of the black border on the left hand side of the image. Can anyone advise me on this one? Here's the file:

    Many thanks!

Don't know about doing it in Photoshop but I played around with this online editor and just cropped the black space out. Is that what you wanted done?

Select the image - excluding the black area - using the rectangular marquee tool and then in the top menu go to image>crop.

    That'll do it.

Also, considering you're a total Photoshop newb, that's pretty darn impressive.

That's a pretty cool looking prop! Love the photo.

I know you didn't ask for any specific advice about the look & feel of the prop ... but, generally I reckon that you could easily increase the Gaslighty-ness of this newspaper handout just by scrunching the text closer together. Real newspapers from the 1890s were pretty dense when it came to setting type. Maybe you could just change the text justification to "Fully Justify" rather than "Centred" and decrease the spacing between lines ....?

Of course you should take unsolicited advice like this with the grain of salt it is intended

Excellent, thanks for the help guys. I did the amend in PS (thanks Scarecrovv) since I'm trying to get up to speed with it.

Thanks also for the nice comments. I'm really enjoying putting these files together, but I can't wait to use them! I think the big challenge will be creating a floorplan of Carlton House. I could always use the version from 'The Haunting' but would prefer to make my own if it's not a lot of pain.

I did consider putting the text closer together dce, but I guess I compromised readability for authenticity. I might still change my mind though

I think if I ever run the Haunting again, I will draw my own floorplan based on a more British layout. The Floorplans as given are very odd. I don't know if it's a 'New England' layout or wether the person who drew the original just didn't really think about it.

In my Gaslight version, the Corbitt house is transformed into Carlton House, in St George's Square, Pimlico. I think I'll keep the number of rooms the same, but as you were considering change the size and layout to fit the English setting.

Oh yes. Keep the rooms the same, just rearrange the layout

I think the layout in the original is bizarre. I completely revamped when I ran it at Roleplay Online, but I didn't bother to map it out, just relied on description. If anyone wants to send me a private message, I'm happy to share my revisions, both layout and narrative.

I took a great deal of my inspiration in running the scenario from an earlier poster's report here on Y-SdC. His name was Arravis and the thread is here: http://www.yog-sothoth.com/threads/1...hlight=Arravis
