    Online game - anyone interested?

So, I'm interested in Running a game, using the Fantasy Grounds 2 program and possibly skype. - I'm GMT, and can do any evening but Saturday, and while I've never GM'd a CoC game bar a couple of PBM games, I've been using FG2 for two years GMing a D&D game. I've also been following numerous CoC games via audio games.

If people are interested, but do not have the program, I'm willing to upgrade to the ultimate version, which will allow people to connect to the game for free.

I'm also willing to record and edit the games if people are interested - it would be like an audio game with a visual component. - of course, if people are not interested in that, then I'm more than happy to run a "private" game.

I'm not worried about the level of experience of players, with either the game or the program. I'm willing to help learn or be taught when I've assumed mistakes. I'm not sure what I'll be running investigation wise, but it will depend on what the players have played, but it will be a short investigation and then move on from then.

    So, is anyone interested?

My time is such that I would not be able to participate, nor would we be able to synchronize time zones. However, your experiment sounds very interesting. I have for some time been intrigued by the idea of using a virtual world program like Second Life to run a Call of Cthulhu role playing game, but have not tried it yet. If this gets going I would be interested in hearing about it periodically.

Interested if logistics could be sorted. If not, i will certainly follow your game should you post sessions.

I'm on vacation for the next two weeks and would be happy to join a game any night. After that its back to work for me and I won't be able to.
Since I don't have FG2 I could only do it if you upgraded - but certainly don't upgrade on my account only, since I wouldn't be a regular player, just a member of a one-shot.

I'll check with the significant other - what hardware is required for Skype, just a headset ? I've never used Skype. I also don't have fantasy grounds (and never heard about it...)

    BTW - I'm CET, so GMT+1 IIRC

Hi there - count me as interested

I have FG2, CoC add-on and Skype ( + headset ). My availability varies each week, but generally only Mon-Thurs.

    cheers

I'd be interested if I'm available. I'm GMT too and available Tuesday through Thursday most weeks. I have FG2, the CoC add-on and I have also GMed Cthulhu on FG2 (six players plus me). Our FG2 group use Skype so that's not a problem either.

Which era are you thinking of running? (My two were 1910s (English boarding school) and 1920s (US)).

Have you considered posting on the FG2 community board for players if this does request does not generate sufficient interest?

Very interested; not far from you IRL, so same time-zone, although I don't have FG2...

Oh, and I'm available at all times, indefinitely (such are the joys/woes of unemployment).

You, too, will come to understand fear as I have.

Skype just needs a headset/microphone, and is actually very good.

So we have four people and one interested in a one shot, its looking like tuesday, wednesday or thursday as a day. two people with FG2 and the add on is good, as thats less teaching of the program (its easy to use, but has a few quirks)

I've thought of the FG2 boards, but thought I may get more interested people here than there - a few looks shows its not the most active of forums.

Finally I'm thinking of running a 1920's adventure, I have a few books (core rule book, Mansions of Madness and the Arkham Suppliment) to choose from, so I should be able to get one that no one has played yet. I want to stick to a pre planned one for the start, as I've not GMed a real time game of CoC before, and want to have the info in front of me while I get used to the differences in the program.

How do people feel about recording the sessions?

    Okay,

just bought a headset, I'll try to install Skype tonight and see how that goes.

As for possible timing (rule of thumb, exceptions are possible):

During weekdays I can only be online in the evening, unless I'm on vacation. Not too late for me - normally 19:00 - 22:00 (CET) shouldn't be a problem.

Friday is my club gaming nigh', so I'm only 'free' 1 in 2 fridays. Occasionally I'll have to work late on other evenings (which I try to avoid).

Sunday morning and evenings are also an option for me. Real life(tm) normally takes care of the rest of the weekend.

As for background, I first played CoC about 23-24 years ago. The only published scenario I played through at that time was Shadows of Yog-Sototh. After a long hiatus, I picked up CoC a couple of years ago, but only as a keeper, not a player.

I have a lot of the published material, but not Mansions of Madness. I'm familiar with 'The plantation' but only through the "Skype of Cthulhu" podcast - I have no idea how close this game was tot the published material. 'Mr Corbitt' rings a bell as a name, but that's about it.

I have run my gaming group through the Masks campaign, The Vanishing Conjurer (GW) and Under The Boardwalk (MULA). Next up will be the Ripples form Carcossa - Invictus scenario, after which I'll return to a 20's scenario. This may be Tatters of the King or Day of the Beast, both of which I've started to prepare.

I'd prefer 1920's (or 1930's), but will play anything from gaslight to the 40's. Dark Age and modern have less appeal for me.

I'd first like to 'give it a go' with a short scenario. Is there a trial version of the other software which will work for a test-run ? I glanced over their website, but it's not very clear if only 'saving mode' is disabled or if there are more non functioning bits.

Recording is fine by me, if you're prepared to edit it to 'clean up' the recording.

Editing is not a problem - there is no way I'd put up a unedited game with ten minutes of nothing because someone needed the toilet, someone else needed to put the kids to bed and another just had a tree come through the window (actual story). I've got a decent editing program, and have a few LP's up on youtube. I'm active over at somethingawful.com, where I have been running a LP with daily updates for the last two years without missing a day, I also have two other LP's active there. I only have a few videos, as I tend to do the grognard games which work better in screenshots.

The plan is definitely to have a go with a short scenario. I may link a few together, or go for a larger one - or even switch to making something up myself.

oh yeah, if you want to annoy me on Skype, its the.grey.hunter, as for the demo of FG2, I'm not sure on its limitations.

If you'll have me for the game, I have no qualms about recording.

If you have ran FG2 D&D, then you will find the CoC interface to be easy peasy to run. It is very basic compared to the D&D one. In fact I have been poking them on the FG forum about upgrading the CoC one ( same username as here ), as it has fallen way behind the new gizmos IMHO. The main problem I have found with it, is the combat tracker, in that it is only visible to the Keeper. So, as a player, you are awaiting the Keeper to count down the DEX's.

Regarding published stuff you mention, I have an Arkham supplement from the 80's, and the core scenarios from rules editions 2,5 and 6, all of which I have ran or played, at some time or other in the past. I have not read or played MoM though.

Playing wise, I have played from Cthulhu Invictus through to Cthulhu Rising, and recently I have gotten heavily into Realms of Cthulhu. I also own Delta Green and the Laundry. So, whatever you fancy

As for recording the session, up to you, I am completely neutral about it. As long as you let me know beforehand though.

    cheers
    Paul
