"The Artist" (a new silent film using Old Hollywood)

Not HPL, but set in his time (Classic Era for gaming purposes) and using surviving Old Hollywood landmarks. This "sounds" brilliant and most of all, it's a love letter to the period and the art of film.

"Shot for $14.2 million in classic Hollywood locations — Mary Pickford's Hancock Park starter mansion, the Orpheum Theater in downtown L.A., the Paramount Pictures and Warner Bros. backlots — the plot of "The Artist" may be simple, its look retrograde. But bringing the film to screen required no small amount of innovation: writing and illustrating a screenplay that would appeal to actors; figuring out how to propel the story without dialogue; landing a financier for the unorthodox project; finding a way to give the film a vintage aesthetic; and now selling it to critics, general audiences and awards."

Looks good, even got some big-ish actors in it, to boot. I will see it if it come out over here.
The static in my mind, leaves me hollow and unkind.

Helen & I saw this at the cinema.

It's an excellent film. The dog is definitely one of the stars.

I'd recommend going to see this on the big screen if you can!

I felt it lacked something, I liked it, but wouldn't see it again, if anything it felt too clean and it missed a good trope.

I'd still go and see it, if you like the idea, but if it wins an Oscar (apart from the dog!) it's only due to it being a silent film. I also noticed Kenneth Branagh has been put up for a Oscar for his work in 'My Week with Marilyn', and he was the worst actor in it! He's accent went from Laurence Olivier to Harry H Corbett, every other word! 'You dirty old man!'
The static in my mind, leaves me hollow and unkind.
