"Home again, home again, Yiggety Yig... Goo-ood evening, Quetzalcoatl."
i remember at the time many fans who couldnt preorder but wanted the scenarios.
i echo pookies statement but will also add that i think its rather cool that tom took those sentiments on board and chose to release the prequel/sequel after consideration. a game company that listened to its fans.
sure, the scenarios may no longer be as exclusive as they once were but is that what matters? or is it the game itself? ask yourself this.. did you preorder just for the free scenarios and so that no one else would have them? or did you want the book anyway?
All the same, it can only be good that even the free scenarios are treasured in this way![]()

I see that this release is inspired by the At The Mountains of Madness - or is there another explanation for the albino MRP owl?
I preordered Arrius and I'm quite happy to have the additional scenarios as PDF's, not least because of Steff's wonderful maps became very dark in my self-made PDF of them. And, no, they will not be sent to anyone so need to ask or beg.

We are playing Naufractus now, it will probably take us another session to finish it, I would recommend anyone who has interest in Invictus and Arrius Lurco to get a hold of the pdf.
Regarding the pre-order offer:
1-I have the scenarios in print.
2-I had the scenarios before all the others that didn't pre-order it, and that is why we are playing it right now while most people are just wondering what the Naufractus is all about.
3- 1 and 2 is good enough for me that made the pre-order worth the waiting.
4- It will be a shame, if these scenarios were never released to general public. I never expected MPR doing that to its customers/fans. I am getting a lot less with other pre-orders out there.
Did I say that Naufractus is really cool?![]()

OMG, those two exclusive scenarios are not so exclusive after all! AGGGH! YYYYYNNNNGH! ( I am vexed)
Wait. What do I care? Got them before anybody else. People getting them now takes away nothing from me ( My precioussssss).
I've ransomed Detwiller ( and would again) and others so that awesome scenarios coule be written, and then made public for free. What do I care if the two Lurcco scenarios are seen by more peopl? The more rpgers there are, the better. The more people ensnared in the evil clutches of the MRP empire, the bett...
Sorry, Tom, got carried away ther.
Please, Tom, not the cage. Not the cage with the grinch.
Tom.

Exactly. I ordered with the full expectation that I was keeping those scenarios out of the hands of the plebs.
No, seriously, I was going to get the book anyway, and the offer pushed me to get it sooner rather than later. That apparently helped the cash flow of MRP, which cannot be a bad thing in the long run. (And it indirectly led to my finally getting Our Ladies of Sorrow; see last sentence.)

If it makes some people feel better, as i'm laying out the pdf, i'm inserting some formulae that i got from the Turing Theorem, combining it with the outer edges of the Mandelbrot set and a spell that Tom gave me (Tom claims he got it from some Bob Howard chap). Essentially, those reading this new version of the pdf will experience a smaller, more focussed version of a Shrivelling spell, that affects only the eyes.
Oops.
I guess i shouldn't have mentioned this out loud, huh? Now i've gotta figure out how to explain to Tom the sudden drop in sales...

What I'm going to say might not be very popular, but it needs to be said, I think...
On the one hand I accept Steff's point (backed up by several others) that this is not a major issue. BUT...
When I'm told that something will be exclusive to those who pre-order a product "for the foreseeable future", I do not expect to see it made available to all and sundry only 3 months later. That was a selling point of the original offer, and this does seem, as TheHistorian says, to be against the spirit of that offer.
Of course I wanted Legacy anyway, offer or no offer. But postage from the US to the UK is very expensive. I could have just waited a very little longer and bought the book without paying that extra money. Sure, I wouldn't have had the extra scenarios, but 3 months isn't long to wait. As it happens, due to various delays I haven't started running Naufractus yet; my players will be starting it in a week or two. So the delay really wouldn't have mattered much to me.
This offer was part of why I pre-ordered the book. It wasn't the only reason, to be sure. I like MRP's products. I like the people involved (inasmuch as I know them from this forum) and I want to support them. I also ordered another book at the same time so the postage would be split over the two, which helped me justify it to myself (but of course I could have bought both in the UK and paid little or no postage).
But if I'd known that I could have the scenarios on PDF only 3 months later, I might not have pre-ordered. And it certainly makes me more reluctant to pre-order stuff from MRP in the future.
Please note that I'm not really deeply annoyed; I'm not claiming I've been ripped off or anything. And I'm still going to buy this new supplement, of course. But I am a little miffed. If those two scenarios were made available some time in 2012 it would be fine, but I have to agree with TheHistorian that this doesn't seem to be in the spirit of the original offer.
On the other hand, another scenario to go on the end of the campaign is no bad thing, and I'm looking forward to reading it and running it! I can't stay mad at you guys for long...

Hey everyone,
I just wanted to give a little bit more information about this project.
After The Legacy of Arrius Lurco was released MRP was quite surprised at how well it was received by the audience. Any non-classic era publication for Call of Cthulhu comes with a certain level of anxiety on how well it is going to do. Therefore I wrote two additional scenarios to be given as a free gift to those who pre-ordered the book. Basically MRP was afraid of losing money on a Cthulhu Invictus release, and was looking to hedge the bet.
The bet paid off, and The Legacy of Arrius Lurco sold well enough that it paid off MRP’s investment in it faster than any book we’ve put out so far. This was a surprise. What was also a surprise was that those two free scenarios were suddenly in high demand. The fans wanted more…
So MRP decided to use those two free scenarios as the cornerstone to a whole new book. We didn’t just want scenarios; we wanted articles, additional rules and historical information. I always enjoyed the old Minions and Secrets books, so we went to some new, very talented authors and got four short, single session scenarios. MRP got our Latin expert, Justin Mansfeild, to do something, and Cthulhu Invictus creator Chad Bowser to do something... MRP commissioned four new art pieces, a new map, and a new Cthulhu Invictus character sheet for this project. We got Badger to work his magic on layout once again as well.
I just want everyone to know, this is not a throw away, cash-in-on-a-fad book. MRP is proud of this product and has always had too much respect for our fans to ever betray their trust and support. So, I hope this helps some of you make up your minds about this PDF. MRP hopes to have it out in a little over a week.

I know it was never MRP's intention to take advantage of the fans, Osk. As I've already said, I will certainly be buying Lux in tenebras, and I'm looking forward to it!
I just thought it was important to point out the negative, too. In a weird way, it's kind of a compliment, actually! If most companies had done this, I'd probably just shrug my shoulders and say "well, I'm never pre-ordering from them again." But because it's MRP, I thought I should explain how I felt. I hope you'll feel that feedback is valuable, whether negative or positive.
