I have a lot of Nox Arcana's albums and find them to be quite enjoyable when running RPGs.
Tangerine Dream's "Phaedra" was always one my favorites:

Though their earlier stuff was less rhythmic and might be better as ambient game music. Unfortunately all mine's on vinyl.
I've found a number of good background music type performers on Jamendo. All [legitimately] free to download.
My favorites: Sulatus, Conspiracy (does some metal, but lots of ambient), PeerGynt Lobogris (many of his albums are metal, but a few are ambient),
If you want lovely eerie violin (and don't we all) - Yael Bat-Shimon
For a lighter, dreamlands tone - Celestial Aeon Project or Butterfly Tea
And, of course, incompetech.com - search his "film horror" section. Awesome!!
I like It Took The Night To Believe by the drone metal band Sunn 0))). I've used it for scenes when the investigators are in the wilderness: I turn the volume down low and it wears away at my players' nerves with gutteral moans and an insistent drone throughout.
I really like the dark ambient black metal band Forest Silence too and I've just recently got into a really scuzzy black metal band from Norway called Malsain: their music makes me shiver but I haven't found a good opportunity to use it in my games yet.
I think I probably need to find music a bit more appropriate for the genteel home counties settings that I usually set my games in...![]()
Most everything by Lustmord is uber creepy.

Running BTMOM at the moment and In Remote Places by Alicorn has been getting a lot of plays. I often use David Sylvian's album Gone to Earth - the second half is entirely instrumental and certainly creepy.
'Delirium Cordia' by Fantômas, creepy and more than an hour long : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g3DfC...eature=related
The Silent Hill soundtracks are generally pretty good, though I think Obscure actually has some better Creepy Holy music, so I tend to switch between the two.
Midnight Syndicate is really awesome as well, though.

Wow, I totally forgot about that track. I remember hearing it way back in the day after first being exposed to Jean Michel Jarre and such. Very cool.
As for soundtracks, I just got the quirky Extraordinary Adventures of Adele Blanc-Sec and it has some brilliant period music and a fantastic Eqyptian theme running through it.
Favourites are still Lustmord and Musica Cthulhiana otherwise.![]()
As mentioned in other threads (MechSpike, I found this good thread while looking for more stuff on music), I don't have an all-time favorite because I prefer to tailor the track to the specific setting and mood of the game. But I'd like to mention tracks I've been using for a 50s-era game. Since Atomic Age is coming out this summer, people might find it particularly useful.
Try soundtrack master Bernard Hemann on for size. You might find it too dated for the 20s-era, but it wouldn't be completely out of place. These tracks would be great for times when your characters are sneaking around in a lair or base or underground city.
From The Day the Earth Stood Still, a track called Nocturne/The Flashlight/The Robot/Space Control
From Twilight Zone, a track called Starlight
Also from TDTESS, a track called Solar Diamonds
Stan Ridgway and Pietra Wexstun's soundtrack for the Mark Ryden art show "Blood" has some strangely memorable bits. We used to play it a lot during sessions and it always seems to synch up with whatever was happening in the game.

Dig it!
We just swap playlists every week, but I did load up a CoC playlist once that I liked quite a bit. A few Nurse With Wound tracks, some Maurizio Bianchi, some death industrial and power electronics...man, I can't remember what else. Anyway, I think this track is creepy:

While not "creepy," this track is probably the most CoC friendly one I've made:

I mostly collect sad songs (love them) so I'm really grateful for this awesome reference of creepy songs. I'll need to wrack my brain and see if I can come up with something good.

I didn't see anyone mention it in this thread, so i'll throw out the soundtrack to Session 9. Gives me the creeps just listening to it.
