I would be interested in getting this supplement, but one thing I wish it had: info on 1890s United States.
I think that's the reason why I didn't get it the first two times.
IMO, playing in 1890s England seems a bit too restrictive.
I had the same reservations, but now that I actually have a copy of Cthulhu By Gaslight, I can see that my concerns were unfounded. There is some truly amazing stuff in this book. My hat is off to Mr. Barton for putting together such a fine piece of work.
This book has....
~ New traits and drawbacks for your investigators (Which can be used in any version of CoC, and maybe included in the new 7th ed coming soon.)
~ Wonderful background information on the Victorian period, so any Keeper can be well informed on how to play/run a game in this period.
~ Awesome details on The Colonies, The Rest of the World, London Locals, English Laws and the Police.
~ Biographies on actual people of the time period.
~ Character stats on fictional characters that fit the time period. Including, but not limited to: Buffalo Bill Cody, Alan Quartermain, Sherlock Holmes, Fu Man Chu, and The Martians from H.G. Well's book. Hell, you can drop the Martians into a 1920's game, easy!
~ And two really well written adventures.
The production quality on this book is also top-notch. I can't praise this book enough. It made a believer out of me on running a game in the Victorian era.
Although I still haven't seen a copy of the final book, from seeing the text and some samples of Badger's layout work I definitely agree with that Mr Hook's deferential offing of headware ... Though while I think there's plenty of reason to praise Mr Barton for the parts of the book that carry over from 2nd Edition, I think an equal amount of praise should go to Mr Ross and others who have somewhat significantly overhauled Gaslight with this book. They really have created something that is obviously related to the previous setting, but skews it in a new and interesting direction.
Dean (from Adelaide) [not entirely unbiased, as he contributed a few graphical knick-knacks to the Gaslight book]

Echoing what Dean said, Kevin Ross really deserves a hansom cab's worth of credit for the work inside Gaslight. Although certainly Mr. Barton laid the groundwork for 3rd edition, and there's still a lot of his original material in there.
Glad you like it! It's been a long time coming, and i hope it was worth the wait.

Let's just make this a mutual admiration society for awhile.
I finally got my copies of the book today, and it is, quite simply, the best looking book I've ever been in. Badger has outdone himself with the layout on this book, with nice layering of effects and banners and period illustrations (courtesy of Dean E?). This is a really nice job. Steff's maps are also outstanding, as is the character sheet (Dean again?!). A good deal of the art was new to me (I worked mostly with Snyder, whose art is a little dark at times herein, but excellent nonetheless*), and I was flabbergasted by some of this stuff even though I'd assigned it yonks ago. I HAVE noticed a couple of boo-boos, but the overall effect is better than I could even have hoped.
Seriously, this is a great-looking book.
Kudos to the whole gang involved with this thing.

*Snyder usually sent me two versions of each pic he was working on: one for me to suggest changes on, and another with comical word balloons. The infamous bit on page 127, for instance, is revealed to be the result of a tragic skateboarding accident.
Aw hell. *blush*
*sigh* I have a feeling i know which ones you're talking about, and, long story short, they were unavoidable, given some very very last second corrections that went in. I'm hoping the next printing will have zapped these.
Trust me, nothing enervates me more than goofs like these.
omg, i forgot about those! He sent me some as well, and they're priceless. I need to figure out a way of sharing them (assuming i get John's permission, ofc). One of the many highlights of working on this book was getting John's artwork- the amount of detail he put into some of his pieces is absolutely stunning, like the attack on Geoffrey Jordan.

Chaosium sent Diehard GameFAN a review copy of Cthulhu by Gaslight 3rd edition, you can read the review at the following:

Note to self: email Chaosium and ask for my contributor's copies. And also about being paid...

Hi Richard!
Well, supposedly the contributors' copies were sent out in the last couple of weeks, but I know Scott doesn't have his, so I'm skeptical. I suspect the only reason I got mine was because I specifically asked for them.
As for your payment -- good luck. Let's just say that Steff seems to be in the minority in that department.
Put a little more archly, remember the old songs you used to hear people sing about Chaosium? Well, everything old is new again.
Put more bluntly: don't hold yer breath.
That said, I still think the book looks absolutely great. The adventures are even better than I remembered them being, and the illustrations for them are spot on. "Burnt Man" is a really good spooky piece, and I'm glad we finally got it in print.
And I have yet to see a review that wasn't extremely positive. I think everybody's getting some love in one way or another, from the Traits (!) to the Victorian fictional characters to the historical material to the layout and maps.
I'm really proud of this book. My thanks and congrats again to everyone involved.

P.S. I posted a link earlier in the thread to the reviews at drivethrurpg, including the one Paul linked to above. Here's another fave write-up...

Buy this book so those schmucks can pay us what wrote it!

Ah well, I've just fired off an email to Charlie asking about both contributor copies and payment - we'll see what the response is soon enough! Can't wait to get my hands on the book though - from the reviews I've read online, it seems like you've done a great job with the book, Kevin, and that the design, illustrations etc are equally top notch. Congratulations all!

Apprently already out of stock again at the Book Depository but my copy arrived today and it looks really great! Excellent work.
Will pdf-files of the handouts be downloadable to make printing them easier?
On a sidenote, I like that we don't have to tear out the map thereby risking destroying the book as was the case with the Lovecraft Country books. Here, the map is a separate insert.
