A Collection of Essays, edited by S. T. Joshi

Hey, all...since there are now contracts in place and everything:

Schultz, Robert M. Price, Will Murray, Robert D. Marten, Steven J. Mariconda, and others. I am again not certain of the schedule of publication, but the volume is already nearly assembled.
I'm not certain of the publication schedule either, but with S. T. collating a series of essays on the Mythos and with Paul Carrick doing a new portrait of Lovecraft for the cover, this promises to be a good tome indeed!

And since we were just talking about how we all admire Paul Carrick's art, I'll share a brand new image of Lovecraft...not a rehashing of the same angle or a reproduction of the same old photo... Enjoy!

I love the cover, and am so glad to see that it is of Lovecraft. His remarkable face is, for me, the perfect image for a book concerning HPL and his Mythos. How I wish Arkham House would replace the covers for their three standard HPL editions with photos of Grandpa, perhaps playfully enhanced as was ye dead cool cover for LORD OF A VISIBLE WORLD. I am really looking forward to this book, this is exactly the kind of non-fiction work that fires my imagination and gives me that ache to produce more Mythos fiction.

Paul once again knocked it out of the park. I do have to admit that i half-expect to see an Elder Sign pin on HPL's jacket lapel...

Now that I *think* I'm mostly done with DBD2, I've moved into production and layout on this particular volume. I've even updated the MRP website!

I am really looking forward for this release. I saw it the other day listed as in-progress, and I am truly interested on this kind of works more than stories now. With age I tend to move more towards the man than his works.

You shold work on a refined letter collection, Tom. Maybe for 2013

Hippocampus Press already started on that. It will take 10-12 years to be published in full, and it will run to 20-25 volumes.

Yeah, I'll leave the letters to Derek @ Hippocampus. The good news is that that S. T., Derek, and I all know each other and since any project like that would involve S. T., we're not likely to duplicate efforts.

I must say though, as I was pouring over this 95,000+ word tome (yeah, it's big), I was really struck by how cool the content is. These are all essays by authors whose fiction you've read and whose anthologies line your walls at home. Herein, those same authors are taking a look at the Mythos and sharing their thoughts. Imagine picking the brains of Bob Price, Will Murray, Richard Tierney, and S. T. Joshi all in one book. It's right here.

Interesting book, I must say. I might pick up a copy of my own at some point. The cover is very nice indeed.

And the book gets first mention in one of Wilum's latest videos starring the editor himself:

Not to be a jerk or anything, but are people REALLY clamoring for something like this? 20+ volumes of letters?

    No way .

Just a nice selection of the most relevant ones in regards of the Mythos. One volume, and a few of his letters. I am just saying that I might not be very interested in Lovecraft opinion about cats and dogs, but in a volume that discusses the inspiration and dreams behind the Mythos, yes.
