The Village - is this Lovecraft?

This comes out today in the US, it's the lastest from M. Night Shyamalan. Is it Lovecraft? It sounds a bit like it.

Methinks this one may well hit the cinemas gobbling and scratching for food
    Cheers.

Looks pretty creepy. Entering the woods on the website is pretty fun.

Save your money, nothing supernatural in the village. My gaming group howled for our money back.

Hey, what's worse is, I saw from the official 'The Village' web site, that they have made a Hitchikers Guide to the Galaxy... For shame, thats all I have to say.

Perhaps we should change the title of this topic to "The Village- Does it Suck?" Apparently, from early reviews, it blows chunks....

Just saw this last night, wow even knowing before hand it was going to be pathetic I wasn't prepared for the suck that was "The Village"
It had okay moments but those were few and far between.

The end made me want to hurt someone. So much lost potential.

Strange, another forum I frequent gave it nothing but good reviews.

I thought the trailer looked very Lovecraftian. As soon as I saw the yellow cloak I immediately thought of Hastur. I really want to see this film, despite what anyone has to say. I've never been one to let others decide for me which movies are good and which aren't. The fact that I thought Torque was a really cool film is testament to that.

Unfortunatly I think the only way we're gonna get a HPLicious movie is to have a filmmaker who is in it only for the mythos do a cheap Evil dead like production which then rises in cult like fandom till it becomes a popular thing, which I doubt is gonna happen. Really Del Toro ranks as our best chance if he can cut himself from the fight scenes.

Sadly, the trailer is ultimately misleading. You're set up for a creepy horror movie but ultimately that's not what you get.

I didn't particularly like the movie. I know some people have found some deeper meaning (social commentary and all that) to the whole thing but as the credits rolled I just sat there shaking my head.

In terms of it being Lovecraftian, sure it was -- in the same way that Sound of Music was. (In other words, you really gotta reach!)

Answer: no, and it’s not very good to boot. Mind you, it’s not a bad film, but it’s far from being a good film.

    Don't be a fence sitter...does it suck?

I heard that M. Night has gone back to the well again with what is now a tired, plodding, zinger twist ending formula.

I will wait for the dollar show for this one...but I plan to check my brain at the door and check out AVP.

No fence sitting for me! That movie outright sucked! There was a revelation only halfway through and it wasn't for the fact that I was on a ate at the time, I would have walked out in a huff, demanding my money back.

    MAJOR SPOILERS

When I go to see what is a presumably a monster movie, I want there to be a freaking monster in it! Is that too much to ask?

    END OF SPOILER
