    Thumbs up The creepiest music...

I like music, sometimes as a background to when to I'm reading something or working on the computer, sometimes as something to actively listen to. If I read books that are supposed to be scary, having creepy music on really helps with setting the mood. And just by chance, through Yog Radio actually, I found an artist I liked and got all of his music. And in that music I have found a track that by far is the creepiest I have heard... No joke, this is really creepy stuff, I prefer NOT to listen to this with the lights out...

    Artist: The Unquiet Void
    Album: The Shadow-Haunted Outside
    Track: Devourer

So of course I'd like to find more music in this style, do anyone have any recommendations?

Can't fault your choice, TUV is a very clever fellow

I'd recommended the Ukrainian electronica act MoozE, their soundtrack for the STALKER games is an amazing raft of thin, dark, dissonant, (mostly) atonal strangeness that periodically swells into the most wonderful, ethereal tonal segments. Doesn't get in the way of concentrating on other media but creates a wonderfully otherworldy vibe. Also legally free here, which is handy.

If you like that kind of material, also check out the talented Aeon Nought.

Possibly my favorite spool of generally creepy background music is Tomandandy's soundtrack to The Mothman Prophecies. Rich, deep and enigmatic.

Also of course (shameless plugs being my speciality), there's my Tatters and In Remote Places albums. Not in the same style, but the little PR demon on my shoulder would bit me if I didn't drop a link, so hey.

I can thoroughly give my endorsement to your albums - they are excellent! Especially In Remote Places, which I play very often. The lost tape scores VERY high in the creepy music ranking!

    Many thanks for the suggestions!

I'd like to second that endorsement of Allicorn's music. It's absolutely top-notch, professional and masterfully creepy music that fits any game focused on mystery, suspense, horror or unease. Yog-sothoth is lucky to have such a talented artist producing work for the Call of Cthulhu game. If only Shadowrun had someone of that calibre...

Somebody (might've been someone on this very board, actually) turned me on to Lustmord recently. Highly recommend them (him?).

Him, and yes, I was going to recommend Lustmord as well. Great dark, gloomy ambient stuff.

If you want something more lively and threatening, I can heartily recommend a few game soundtracks such as Dead Space and (believe it or not) the Bioshock games. Mixed in with a little Lustmord and such they really work a treat!

Also check out, straight from Pelgrane, the Four Shadows music composed specifically to augment Trail of Cthulhu by the great James 'BlueJay' Semple, famous of course for - amongst other things - the Yog-Radio theme itself.

You can find more of James' music in the Pelgrane shop too.

I just ran into this source of Dark Ambient (and creepy!) music this morning:

    DNA Productions

Of particular interest is Epsilon Eridani's "Tribute To H.P. Lovecraft"

    Worth a look/listen.

The video game music to Obscure and Obscure 2 by Olivier Derivičre are free to download from the composer’s website

They are frankly the most haunting and creepy mood music you will ever get for nothing – the guy is a maestro.

My Cthulhu Now games tend to centre on the weird and corrupting like Hastur or Carcosa so this piece of music and the soundtrack it came from were perfect. Sad, sombre, epic, and fatalistic.

(from the movie "Ink" by jamin Winans which I recommend highly. It has THE creepiest villains I've seen in years. Trailer here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZBGeErufQdY)

Variations on a theme include the Inception soundtrack (which is simply stunning but may be slightly too recogniseable) and if you're running Cthulhu Rising then Daft punk's new Tron Legacy Soundtrack is AWESOME. The best track, also VERY Inception-like, is C.L.U. : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D1iOGS7wI6s

I am actually surprised that Allicorn is not recommended as often as it should. I just got today from the patrons área the Tattered soundtrack and I really look forward for his other album. His music is actually inspiring and I can't wait to play it for my players tomorrow. I cannot recommend this guy more. I actually haven't stopped listeting to the album the whole day and was forced to post something.
