Status Report - Tales of the Sleepless City

Miskatonic River Press is proud to announce our 5th project!

Tales of the Sleepless City - a collection of Classic Era Call of Cthulhu scenarios set in New York City.

Why New York City? So many scenarios are set in lonely farmhouses, in remote corners of New England or isolated locations such as lighthouses, islands or forests. However, someone can be just as alone in a major city surrounded by millions of people. The urban scenario has long been in short supply. Writing and running one, as well as conducting an investigation in an urban setting, has its own set of rules, challenges, opportunities and limitations. For the cultists and creatures of the mythos, a city is a great place to hide, to plot and to hunt. Lastly, Tom and I are both native New Yorkers, this is our town.

We are thrilled to tell everyone that this project is being managed and edited by Call of Cthulhu veteran Scott David Aniolowski, who will also be writing one of the scenarios for it. While we’re not ready to announce the exact line up just yet, Call of Cthulhu veterans Dan Harms, Oscar Rios and Brian Sammons have already send in their New York scenarios for review. The cover is currently being produced by none other than the great Paul Carrick.

We’re shooting for a mid 2011 release. Stay tuned for more updates in the weeks and months to come.

*does ritual dance* Sounds like another high-quality, high-impact release from MRP! Looking forward to see what scenarios and art these mythos-blasted minds will give us keepers to torment our players with this time! Another reason to look forward to midsummer 2011 - it's not just getting boozed up on schnaps and chasing elks naked through the forest this time!

I, however, am not a New Yorker. But have a New York state of mind.

Awesome news guys - is it too much to hope for that there will be links (at least acknowledegement) to existing NYC scenarios like those in DoTB and Masks?

I hadn't considered that. While a good idea, that seems more the territory of a Secrets of sourcebook. But what does everyone else think? Is this something people want to see?

As far as the book itself goes, I've gotten all but three of the proposed scenarios, and have begun the task of reading them and making editorial comments. So far it looks like this is going to be a really good collection of scenarios, chok full of Mythosy goodness.

It gets my two tentacles up. I like it when scenarios acknowledge other scenarios and tie into the Call of Cthulhu Mythos.
