Thread: Buy Delta Green now or Wait for D20 reprint?

Buy Delta Green now or Wait for D20 reprint?

I know there's a lot of DG reprint threads but please indulge me in this one. I may be able to get a copy of the old DG book quite soon, but should I wait? Are the chances of the reprint actually getting to us quite good or should I grab the older version before it's too late? Will there be any difference in the text aside from adding in D20 stats and rules in the new one if it comes out?

    Any help would be appreciated.

Don't wait. Get it. Who knows when we'll actually see the new one.

I'd say it comes down to a cost/benefit analysis on a personal level. How much might you be able to buy the original copy for? I could get one on Ebay if I was willing to pay the typical price it goes for there (I'm not) or I could wait (which I am). If a decent situation came up where i could get the copy of the book for $50 or less I'd go for it--but that's me. Then I'd probably buy the new version when that comes out as well.

It's a matter of personal desire, really.

Yes, Pagan will be at GenCon...

Yes, Pagan will be sharing booth space with Eos Press.... or rather Eos Press will be sharing booth space with us. We shelled out the cash up front and they are supposed to pay us back.

No, the d20 Hardcover will not be ready by August, but it will be at GenCon in Anaheim in December.

As reported, the most recent release date for the DG hardcover is December. On the other hand, the reprint has been "coming soon" for some time (such is the way of roleplaying publishers). Will it really appear in December, or will it be pushed back again? I don't know. I hope it does make it out soon.

My understanding is that the only new material will be the d20 material. The BRP statistics and the text will be unchanged.

I posted and asked over at EOS about the Delta Green reprint being dua statted. They said it would be, but he also added a comment about it being d20 if your lucky enough to own a copy. So they do favor d20 over brp I think.

I personally will wait for the reprint though. Im not paying a premium for a book that might have a worn binding.

I just hope they have all the BRP material int he book that the original had.

    Hey, Saduff!

I actually don't favor d20 over BRP - my comment was more of a reference over the fact that CoC d20 is very much Out of Print, and since it does feature some of the best writing on the Mythos in it (John Tynes' chapter on Cosmology is what I'm referring to), it's a cool book to have. But CoC BRP is still very much in print, as opposed to CoC d20.

That being said, I personally don't favor either - heck, I've only ever played the CoC BRP version when I've played the game myself!

Oh, and I should mention - the reprint of DG will have all the original material - it's just been 'enhanced' with the dual-statting material.

I welcome everyone to ask questions if they need to!

Brad: Will it be updated to reflect that it's 2004 instead of the mid-1990s? Maybe it was in DG: Countdown only, but there are references to characters and recent events that would only make sense if you set your games in 1990s.

    Well thanks Brad,

I just took the lucky enough comment as being what you prefer. My first Call of Cthulhu book was the d20 version. Shortly after I got the BRP and got rid of the d20.

I also find alot of companies that produce d20 material to soley favor d20 over anything else, which I dont blame them. Since that is what makes the money. Dungeons and Dragons is great as d20, Call of Cthulhu just didnt have the feel I thought it would in d20.

Saduff: I understand completely - it happens! I just figured I should make clear what my preferences were, such as they are. I love HPL's work, and while my experience with the Chaosium stuff is tilted in favor of their earlier work (I ran MASKS OF NYARLATHOTEP... woot!), I still think the d20 CoC is worthwhile for reading material, since I've not actually played it. As far as d20 goes, while perceptions may seem to be that it's the only way to go, there is still very much a market for non-d20 products.

FunGuy: Delta Green is being reprinted exactly as it was, no changes besides the dual-statting... so no big changes/revelations there.

Now that I think about it d20, would be good for some "pulp" or high action modern Call of Cthulhu.

Ill still pass on it though.

Thanks for the update Brad. You realize you'll probably be sold out within short order due to the pent up demand? Incidentally, why wasn't it updated? Will a Countdown book follow soon in it's loathsome trail?

Personally, I'd prefer to see Eos reprint the Delta Green Eyes Only book next. I suspect demand for that one is even greater.
