    MythosCon

    Hi all,
Let me introduce myself. I am Adam Niswander, an author. I've written some mythos novels.
Kevin Ross suggested I join and post here about a new convention which will be held in January 2011 in Phoenix, AZ, USA. It is called MythosCon and will be an attempt to bring back the good parts of the former NecronomiCon in Providence.
My friend Mark Boniece and I felt like there was a need for a new Lovecraftian Convention and this is our answer.
Though it is early for commitments, a number of my friends have said they will plan to attend--including Alan Dean Foster, Brian Lumley, David Drake, F. Paul Wilson, Greg Bear, S. T. Joshi, Wilum Pugmire, Stephen Mark Rainy, W. Paul Ganley, and Richard Lupoff. Also, the right horrible Robert M. Price has agreed to take up the dangling tentacles of Cthulhu and preside once again at the Cthulhu Prayer Breakfast.
We will feature a full track of Call of Cthulhu Gaming in three rooms throughout the con, as well as pretty much continuous readings, an art show, a mass autographing, and a couple tracks of panels both scholarly and fun.
We are negotiating with the hotel at present. Hope to finalize it before the end of the month. Then we'll move a bit faster.
The rudimentary website is at mythoscon.org. We'll get more of it up soon.
    My email is adamn@att.net
Feel free to contact me with questions.
Memberships are not yet for sale, but will be $50 each through 1 January 2010. Then they will go up. Get 'em as soon as we start making them available.

How did I miss this post?!

Hey, Adam! Welcome to YSDC! And everyone...this lineup Adam is hoping for is a veritable who's who in this genre. Just look!

You could bring your copy of DBD and get it signed by several of the authors! It looks like there are multiple authors and the interior artist for NTMV and Sorrows as well!

Thanks for the welcome, Tom. Happy to be here. Hope to see everyone at MythosCon. The hotel liaison is off at WorldCon but will be back soon and finalize the contract. We need a weekend of Yog-Sothothery.

Nice to see Cody Goodfellow on the list. Underrated writer who did an excellent job with Secrets of San Francisco.

    MythosCon at World Fantasy Convention

I've heard good things about Cody. Looks like I'll have a chance to meet him at World Fantasy Convention in October. For anyone here attending, there will be a MythosCon Party, as well as a Hippocampus Party at WFC.

I wish luck. It's been a number of years since the old Necronomicon folded. A Lovecraft dedicated con would be welcomed. Your line up looks good.

I'll be crossing two tentacles for your success. Keep us apprised of your progress.

    MythosCon

Thanks, Tom. I can use all the good will available. I am in a wheelchair and my health is a bit fragile, but I love the Mythos and getting together with folks who share my passion. It is my hope that this will be an annual convention and that people will support it for years to come.

    Mr. Niswander,

Thank you so much for organizing this. It's a shame that you missed Mr. Goodfellow at the last HPL Film Festival, which he attended. I got a chance to speak with him and it was quite a pleasure.

EDIT: Ooh! Gary Myers, Tom Lynch, Kevin Ross, Stephen Mark Rainey, and more! Holy crow!

I wish I had spoken to Cody there, but HPLFF was a bit rough for me. I'm not very mobile and it was a challenge just making it to the scheduled events. I'll do better with a hotel and being able to go hide when I need to.

    Hey all,

I've been trying to help Adam drum up some additional guests, and I know for sure that Miskatonic River Press is going to be represented in some fashion at the con, even if it's just lil ol' me. But I'm holding my next book for ransom from Tom and Osk until they agree to go, so...

Charlie Krank of Chaosium is also very interested in attending, and I'm betting me old pals Scott Aniolowski and Fred Behrendt can be convinced. We're still trying to get other companies and attendees arranged.

The bottom line is this: Go take a look at the lineup Adam has listed on the site. That's something like 2-3 NecronomiCons rolled into one, folks. If you're a Lovecraft fan, or a Call of Cthulhu gamer, you're gonna kick yourself good if you miss out on this.

Be there. Aloha. (cue the music, Danno)

Sorry to hear that, Mr. Niswander. I was wondering why I didn't see you around the festival much. I look forward to attending MythosCon, however. Please keep us updated as events develop.

Didn't know about Charlie...that'd be great. I also spoke to Scott about this, and he, too, has committed at this point. I have yet to harass Fred about this, though...

Yeah, this really is an exciting line-up. And one thing I must mention, it's not on the site yet, but Adam has assured me:
Kevin Ross wrote up a really nice Gaming Page. The webmaster has it. It just hasn't gotten into the mix yet. There will be three rooms of continuous gaming all through the con. Trust me. Gaming will be a big deal.
So yeah. Come. We'll all be there...

I'm sure these names have already been considered, or have had requests sent to, but just in case they haven't, i'd like to suggest the following in completely random order:

    - Darkest of Hillside Thickets
    - Paul Carrick
    - Larry Ditillio
    - Chaz Engan
    - John Tynes
    - Dennis Detwiller
    - A. Scott Glancy
    - Earl Geier
    - Charles Stross
    - Andrew Migliore
    - Andrew Leman
    - Sean Branney
    - Mr. Shiny (hey, one can dream, can't one?)

    MythosCon

I need, perhaps, to reinterate that MythosCon will have no Guests of Honor. HPL will be our Ghost of Honor. Bob Price is serving as our Toastmaster/High Priest. No one needs to hear from me directly to decide they want to attend. If you or anyone knows these folks, tell them about us and have them contact us. I've tried contacting Andrew Migliore a couple times, and I'll be talking with one of his assistants at WFC. I'm planning on about 100 program participants overall. But I don't know everyone in the business nor am I familiar with everyone's contributions, so folks I don't know should include a list of creds to help me out. I don't want to have anyone think I don't value them, and I sure don't want to offend anyone. That said, someone will have to buy memberships eventually. Program participants will get their membership comped. But there is still hotel, transportation, meals, miscellaneous expenses, etc. The Cthulhu Prayer Breakfast will be a separate event with a $25 ticket. (The convention is already subsidizing that). We believe the hotel will be the same rate for single/double/triple/quad--which we hope will help.

Oh, and Sean Branney said chances are good one or more of the HPLHS folks will be present.
