    ==SPOILERS==

Um, I hate to burst your bubble, but I was under the impression that DG didn't -exist- prior to WW1, let alone 1890. (I thought I read in some of the books that the impetus for founding DG was the Innsmouth Raid) And the Greys (read: "Mi-Go") haven't taken on that persona/appearance to fool humans yet, either.

Without some major re-writing of the history/founding of DG, I don't see how this can work.

Unless you want to go Torchwood on the issue, and try for some proto-DG that would then be accepted as the government agency version of DG "in the future". But how would that deal with the Greys?

the OSS or DG born after the Insmouth accident , BUT, many main gov. agencies born before 1900 so nothin can stop us to build up a pre OSS-DG too.
May be that those agents that started the DG project were already in a sort of "twilight Lodge" born to destroy or atleast understand the mithos?
MJ-12 may be born late for our prjects, but MJ-12 may be only another name for US secrect service that exist from...uhm...18-something .
    Indeed,it s a difficult task,but i think it can works.

Actually, most federal agencies weren't conceived until the 20th century, although the power of the federal government did grow substantially thanks to Lincoln.

Here's a couple thoughts on how something like this could work:

    1. The Senate, concerned about the hysteria over Mormon polygamists (as well as a lot of "cult" activity in the 1850s-1870s), could have put something together.

    2. In the fallout from the Civil War mythos beasties could use the devastation of the South to prey on humanity more brazenly than usual, possibly attracting attention from the government. Alternatively, there could be a growing concern about the rise of "secret societies" such as the Klan in the South, and investigations along those lines could uncover something.

There were UFO sightings in the 1890s; the PCs can be federal marshals or Pinkertons.

Or maybe the OP meant to write 1980s.

I was just going to recommend the Pinkertons. I don't think they've been used nearly enough, and this could be a great project to bring them to the forefront for 1890's US-based games.

I'd suggest taking a look at Deadlands for some inspiration. Different mythos (and very different feel to the game) but it's the right time period and in the same ballpark. (Or at least the same sport.)

In addition to the Pinkertons they posit that the Texas Rangers (more or less the federal police in the CSA) are out there trying to keep the paranormal quiet.

You can always imagine what might have happened if the government had caught wind of what was going on in Innsmouth 60 years earlier...

"It got wuss araound Civil War time, when children born senct 'forty-six begun to grow up - some 'em, that is. I was afeared - never did no pryin' arter that awful night, an' never see one o' - them - clost to in all my life. That is, never no full-blooded one. I went to the war, an' ef I'd a had any guts or sense I'd a never come back, but settled away from here. But folks wrote me things wa'n't so bad. That, I s'pose, was because gov'munt draft men was in taown arter 'sixty-three. Arter the war it was jest as bad agin. People begun to fall off - mills an' shops shet daown - shippin' stopped an' the harbour choked up - railrud give up - but they ... they never stopped swimmin' in an' aout o' the river from that cursed reef o' Satan - an' more an' more attic winders got a-boarded up, an' more an' more noises was heerd in haouses as wa'n't s'posed to hev nobody in 'em...

Maybe they did, and just tried to sweep it under the rug. Perhaps they were so under-prepared, they decided to tell a few Pinkertons about it, and walk away, hoping that would solve it.

Somebody would have to monitor the unwashed hordes from Europe and Asia, and wouldn't it be unlucky if some federal agent dug up a bunch of Jewish kabballahists or something else they percieve as threatening. So there's an under-funded bunch of federal investigators who start to find the mythos coming through Ellis Island, and then they take a trip to a certain part of New England and realise just how deep this thing goes. Then they go to their superiors and find out that "things have been prepared for" and from now on they will be liasing with "the experts."

Immigration should be the thing to be looking at in the late 1800s.

Bodybank - have you queried Pagan Publishing about the idea?

They have the license for DG from Chaosium and would likely be the ones you would be selling it to - Chaosium themselves don't seem to be publishing DG related material at all, probably because of the license to Pagan.

I'm just in the process of finishing a BRP/Cthulhu monograph for Chaosium at the moment and we have a modern scenario that was originally going to be Delta Green - Dustin asked us to simply make it a modern one to avoid any conflicts in licensing with Pagan, which was easy to do.

Just wondering how far you are into the project!

    Lingering_Dark,

Have you considered contacting Pagan and asking their permission to at least have a sidebar discussing adapting the scenario to Delta Green? I know WinstonP employed elements of DG's backstory in his monograph with ASG's approval.

sufirjp - we did consider it and indeed could have asked, but we decided the scenario would be cooler if it wasn't a DG one and took a different direction!
