I will give this a chance. A tv show based on Lovecraft?
Fantastic.Charismatic, sexy and dangerous, Herbert [West]’s obsessions eventually draw his young colleagues, friends and lovers into his dark world.
"Based on", as in the film The Scarlet Letter starring Demi Moore was "based on" Hawthorne's novel. Here's how the producers describe the show themselves:Originally Posted by Ktotwf
This sounds absolutely... retarded. Notice how they managed to mention that it was about teenagers and that it was "sexy", as if these were selling points? Urrghhhh! What BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER was for Gothic storytelling, HERBERT WEST: RE-ANIMATOR will be for sci-fi and horror.
He’s a teenage Dr. Frankenstein in a modern-day younger world, filled with sometimes terrifying scientific intrigue.
Fall—Freshman Year—Miskatonic University
The campus is finally reopening after 10 years of closure. It seems years ago, a student suddenly possessed with an uncontrollable rage broke out into a violent murder spree that left half the campus up in flames. Officials never found out just what filled the young man with the desire to kill so many.
Herbert West, a dark and mysterious young man, arrives on campus, instantly shining as a brilliant young student and the object of many of his female schoolmates’ desires.
We soon learn that along with his medical school, Herbert also has a secret passion that he relentlessly is pursuing. Late at night when everyone else is gone, Herbert conducts groundbreaking experiments…to learn the secret of life itself…to unlock the code that will allow him to reanimate the dead.
Charismatic, sexy and dangerous, Herbert’s obsessions eventually draw his young colleagues, friends and lovers into his dark world. They will all share in the rewards and consequences of meddling with things that man was not meant to—all the while dealing with their own growing relationships and unfolding subsequent storylines inspired by the fantastic works of H.P Lovecraft.
Soon, the group of friends discovers that their campus is also becoming an increasing hot spot for scientific and sometimes horrific phenomenon. It’s as if the place is becoming a portal for the unknown.
Could it be that Herbert’s secret experiments are the cause of these occurrences…or is it something much more indescribable?
Episode by episode, Herbert West and his newfound schoolmates struggle to unlock the secret to life as well as the unknown oddities that they will discover along their journey.
Alliances will be formed and broken—forbidden relationships will develop and complicate.
Some will not survive and others will wish they hadn’t. HERBERT WEST—RE-ANIMATOR is a fresh, contemporary take on all of H.P. Lovecraft’s immortal horror works.
"How can I believe in a pig that talks?"
O God no. Every single one?a fresh, contemporary take on all of H.P. Lovecraft’s immortal horror works.
Herbert West meets the Deep Ones (and teenage shagging ensues).
Herbert West meets the Color out of Space (and teenage shagging ensues).
Herbert West goes to the Mountains of Madness (and teenage lesbian shagging ensues).
The pain . . .
Perhaps we need an "Unwatchable" sub-board?
Camilla: You, sir, should unmask.
Camilla: Indeed it's time. We have all laid aside disguise but you.
Stranger: I wear no mask.
Camilla (Terrified aside to Cassilda): No mask? No mask!

I'm glad S.T. Joshi found Lovecraft's original manuscript for that story. Who would have thunk he originally intended the protagonists to be all members of the same sorority?Originally Posted by Karloff
I think this looks like it could be fun. Although I didn't care for Buffy, so I probably won't really like it if I get to watch it.
Am I my brother's keeper?
No. He doesn't play Call of Cthulhu.

Sorry, just bashing my head against the keyboard there. What with doing all of Lovecraft's stories, I'd say good luck with the budget guys, you're gonna need it to find somewhere in Seattle to double for Boston, Australia and Antrartica.
It really does sound awful though. 'Inspired' could be the key word here.
I'm interested in how they plan to get round the Shadow out of Time problem.Originally Posted by Karloff

Genius. Sheer, freakin' genius.Originally Posted by ThothAmon

A show where the diabolically clever and sexually predatory character of Asenath Waite opens up all kinds of possibilities for omni-sexual couplings? Not to mention squishy human/Deep One action?
My god. If they take it totally over the top this show will be filled with win.

They say Yog-Sothoth has developed a taste for human women after the Whately business. Five Misk grad students happen to be going through that area on a road trip and...
Joking apart I could just about see West having a stalker type woman whose obssesed with him. Not that he'd be realy interested mind you.
But you could only have that for the Miskatonic University parts. You'd need to introduce other characters for differant sections.
"Some will not survive and others will wish they hadn’t."
I'll risk a guess the ones who wish they hadn't are the audience.....
Reading this made me want to "dig up" this old corpse...
